Army Region 2 Unveils Millennia-Old Legend of 'Underwater Narayana Reclining on the Ocean': Thailand's Only Submerged Khmer Carving

Army Region 2 opened a hiking trail to Thailand's only submerged Khmer carving, a 1,000-year-old Narayana relief sculpture hidden in a river in Ubon Ratchathani province's Nam Yuen District. The initiative aims to develop the site as a cult

3h ago Khaosod

Army Region 2 has officially opened a nature study trail to the 'Underwater Narayana Reclining on the Ocean,' an ancient archaeological site in Ubon Ratchathani province that is recognized as Thailand's only submerged stone carving. Led by Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksasil, commander of Army Region 2, the expedition surveyed and established a route from the Pha Yai base of the 23rd Ranger Regiment near Phu Wang Nam Jan temple in Nam Yuen District, using traditional paths that local residents once traveled to pay respects to the sacred site.

The initiative aims to develop the area into a conservation-focused tourist destination and educational center for history, archaeology, and nature. The 'Narayana Reclining on the Ocean,' known locally as the underwater Narayana carving, is an ancient low-relief sculpture over 1,000 years old carved mysteriously into natural sandstone rocks along a riverbank. Measuring approximately 120 centimeters long and 50 centimeters high, the carving depicts Vishnu reclining on the serpent Ananta Naga, with clearly visible three-headed nagas and lotus stems emerging from his navel—a symbol of world creation in Hindu cosmology. A female figure believed to represent Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity and fortune, appears at the base.

Experts believe the carving was created during the late Khmer civilization period, dating between the 15th-17th Buddhist century—over 1,000 years ago—serving as significant evidence of Khmer artistic and cultural influence in the northeastern region. What distinguishes this site from typical archaeological monuments is its harmonious blend of art and nature; rather than being housed within a grand stone sanctuary, it lies hidden on rocks in the middle of a river deep within the forest, like a secret treasure of ancient civilization.

Army Region 2 reports that the site is increasingly attracting history enthusiasts, trekkers, and nature lovers. The opening of this nature study trail is expected to establish 'Underwater Narayana Reclining on the Ocean' as an important cultural and natural tourism destination for Thailand.

Slips and Falls on Phu Khao Ngoem Curve in Na Haew—District Chief and Police Investigate, Find Bug Residue Culprit

Slippery insect residue left on a mountainous curve after heavy rains has caused recent vehicle accidents; Na Haew District officials are working to improve safety with better warning signs and maintenance.

4h ago Khaosod

At 2:00 PM on May 20, 2569, Na Haew District Chief Pathom Emosoth, along with Atit Chanuavat, Chairman of the Namala Subdistrict Administrative Organization, health department officials, the Ban Non Sawang Health Promotion Hospital director, Na Haew Police Station officers, and Namala Subdistrict headman, conducted a joint field inspection at the Phu Khao Ngoem curve. The six agencies met to identify causes and develop solutions for the numerous vehicle and motorcycle accidents occurring in this area.

Over the past two to three days, heavy rainfall has persisted in the area. District Chief Pathom noted that authorities are taking the situation seriously. Upon inspection, officials discovered that after rainfall, insects such as mayflies and mosquitoes gather on the road surface, leaving behind thick, slick residue. The area also lacks warning signs, and heavy rain combined with thick fog in certain periods compound the hazard.

To reduce accidents and ensure public safety for travelers passing through Phu Khao Ngoem and Phu Peuy, drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution on this road.

Shop with Purpose, Support Thai Veterans: 'POPPY memorandum' – A Small Store Filled with the Heart of War Veterans that transforms every purchase into a force of support for those who once protected the Thai nation. The War Veterans Organization (WVO) oversees war veterans, their families, and reserve soldiers by promoting careers for retired or disabled veterans. The organization has arranged handicraft production for war veterans and families to manufacture and sell at their small shop. The shop doesn't merely sell products, but passes on 'encouragement' and 'dignity' to war veterans and families of those who sacrificed for the nation.

That shop is 'POPPY memorandum,' a store selling war veteran handcrafted products that transforms every purchase into a force supporting those who once defended Thailand. Going back to 2004, the War Veterans Organization established the '1 Community 1 Product' shop to open a marketplace for war veterans, their families, reserve soldiers, and agricultural community members to sell their handmade goods and earn dignified income for their families. In 2023, the shop underwent a rebranding under the name 'POPPY memorandum,' a name with deep meaning—serving as a space of memory and tribute to the heroism of war veterans who sacrificed for the nation, while also reflecting the potential and value of products they created together with their hands and hearts.

Upon entering the shop, visitors are greeted by the charm of Thai handicrafts filled with intricate details and character. These include Thai military scarves, Mukdahan clay-infused fabrics, woven bags, hand-knitted items, and contemporary ethnic clothing suitable for everyday wear. The shop also features home décor items and various crafts including patchwork pillows, soldier dolls, Thai elephant-patterned dolls, crocheted curtains, and traditional wisdom crafts from across Thailand.

Health enthusiasts can purchase herbal products and cosmetics including natural lemongrass shampoo, hot-formula green oil, fragrant lemongrass mosquito spray, and herbal toothpaste. Food lovers can choose from jasmine rice, rice berries, sai oua (northern sausage), coffee, and local souvenirs to support.

One popular service is the 'POPPY memorandum Gift Basket,' customizable according to budget, suitable for gifts, hospital visits, or special occasions—each item carries meaning far beyond its monetary value.

Currently, POPPY memorandum operates two branches: the central War Veterans Organization office opposite Pramongkutklao Hospital and the War Veterans Hospital branch. Customers can also browse and order online through Facebook and Line under the name 'POPPY memorandum.'

Because every baht spent is not merely a purchase, but passing on opportunity, encouragement, and the value of sacrifice to Thai war veterans who, though retired, continue to struggle for life and family with the same dignity as when they stood defending their nation.

Man Buys Second-Hand Bag for Pocket Change, Thinks It's Beautiful—Shock Revelation: It's a Luxury Brand Worth Millions

A man paid just 50 baht for a second-hand bag at a thrift store, only to learn from an expert it was a rare Cartier piece worth over 1.2 million baht.

4h ago Khaosod

Lucky break! A man purchased a second-hand handbag for just $1.50 (about 50 baht) because he thought it looked nice, only to discover it was a luxury Cartier piece potentially worth over a million baht at auction. When browsing a local thrift store near his home, he spotted the bag and decided to buy it on impulse, completely unaware that it was actually a world-renowned luxury item.

Expert appraiser Catherine Van Dell from the Antiques Roadshow examined the bag and immediately recognized it was no ordinary second-hand purchase. The craftsmanship was remarkably refined and distinctive. Van Dell confirmed the bag's exceptional value: it is made of platinum and decorated with carved crystals, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and antique European-cut diamonds. She also identified the Cartier maker's mark inside.

Van Dell revealed that if the bag were to go to auction, it would be valued at approximately $35,000 (around 1.2 million baht). The owner was astonished and moved to tears upon learning he possessed such a valuable treasure.

Suphajee Sets July 1 Date for State Agency Database Integration, Moving Toward Digital Government

Over 320 Thai government agencies will integrate their databases starting July 1, 2025, to streamline digital services and reduce administrative burdens for businesses and citizens.

4h ago Khaosod

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthammaphand presided over a digital government advancement event at the Santitiprachai Building of the Government House, announcing that starting July 1, 2025, over 320 Thai government agencies will coordinate to link government databases under the concept of "unlocking government data, reducing public burden." The Department of Business Development, under the Commerce Ministry's supervision, along with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission and the Digital Government Development Agency, will lead this collaborative effort, which has been assigned by the Prime Minister as a crucial step in enhancing national competitiveness in the digital economy.

The government's policy aims to reform economic structure and upgrade public sector efficiency through intelligent digital systems, reducing business costs and eliminating trade obstacles to position Thailand as a regional economic hub. Integrating databases across government agencies will be essential to achieving this goal. The transition to a fully data-driven government with seamless digital systems will ensure transparency, enable citizens and businesses to access information digitally, and provide precise tools for solving national problems while helping SMEs grow equitably and access government data rapidly.

Suphajee emphasized that Thailand faces three major transformations: technological transition, building investment confidence, and elevating the country to international standards. Technology is no longer optional but essential for the government to improve public services. The database integration will enable faster service delivery, reduce paperwork steps, travel requirements, and costs for citizens and businesses.

In 2024, the Department of Business Development issued 2.3 million legal entity certificates and 10 million document copies, consuming approximately 19.2 million sheets of paper annually. Starting July 1, 2025, all 320 government agencies will access corporate data from the Department in real-time through the Business Data Exchange system, transitioning from paper-based to fully electronic services for inter-agency data verification and inspection.

Jealous Rescue Volunteer Brutally Assaults Wife with Gun Butt, Death Threats, Flees with Over 600,000 Baht in Assets

A 45-year-old rescue volunteer in Nonthaburi assaulted his wife with a gun butt and saw handle after finding her chatting with an ex-boyfriend, then fled with over 600,000 baht in assets and made death threats.

4h ago Khaosod

On May 20, 2569, Kraithuach Thammatada and Saichon Nityakham, an assistant MP from Nonthaburi District 7, accompanied Ms. A (pseudonym), a 44-year-old hospital employee, to file a police report at Bang Bua Thong Station against her 45-year-old husband, Mr. B (pseudonym), a volunteer rescue worker, for assault and death threats. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on May 19 in a residential community in Pimolraj Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, with security camera footage as evidence.

Security footage from the bedroom at 12:52 a.m. recorded the couple arguing over a woman's mobile phone messages before the husband became violent. At 12:54 a.m., footage showed the victim fleeing the bedroom, but the husband pursued her with a pruning saw with a handle, striking her. At 1:08 a.m., when the victim tried to unlock the gate to escape but found it locked, the husband retrieved a firearm from his vehicle. The victim ran to neighbors for help but was assaulted again, struck on the head with the gun butt outside the camera's view.

The victim stated that her husband found her chatting with an ex-boyfriend on her phone and became jealous, leading to physical violence including pushing her down stairs, beating her with a saw handle, and striking her face and head with a gun. The incident resulted in a torn wound on her nose and leg injuries. Her sister revealed the suspect called around 1:18 a.m. threatening to kill her and demanding someone collect her corpse, and she had previously noticed bruises on her sister's body multiple times.

Meanwhile, officers helped coordinate social workers and legal assistance for the victim, facilitating her hospitalization, police report, and safety arrangements. They also helped her retrieve her belongings from the house due to safety concerns if the suspect returned.

The victim disclosed she had been married to the suspect for four years with registered marriage. She experienced repeated physical abuse and had considered divorce. The night of the incident, when he saw her chatting with a childhood ex-friend who now only listens to her problems, he became jealous and accused her of infidelity before attacking her. Throughout their relationship, the husband displayed extreme jealousy, forbidding her to speak to anyone, constantly demanding reports of her whereabouts and activities, and preventing her from contacting her children, who now live with relatives. The victim sustained injuries from the assault including facial wounds and leg damage, and had previously attempted to seek divorce multiple times but was threatened each time.

CP Group Presents the 6th 'CP 100 Stories of Goodness 24 Hours' Awards

CP Group honored employees demonstrating exceptional goodness at the sixth annual awards ceremony, recognizing acts ranging from emergency assistance to integrity and service across its global business divisions.

4h ago Khaosod

CP Group (Charoen Pokphand Group) continues to reinforce its corporate culture of goodness through the 'CP 100 Stories of Goodness 24 Hours' program, which serves not only as a platform to recognize employees who do good but also as an important mechanism to cultivate values of positive thinking, good actions, and courage to help others in every aspect of work and life. The group recently held the sixth awards ceremony at the Charoen Pokphand Leadership Institute to honor exemplary employees from various business divisions including CP Foods, CP All, CP Extra, True Corporation, CP Land, CPRam, and Asia Era One, presenting a total of seven awards. The ceremony reflects that 'goodness' is not merely a concept but manifests in real situations—from assisting accident victims to caring for others during emergencies, maintaining integrity, and providing exceptional service. The awards ceremony was held alongside a 'Vision to Action' seminar attended by over 500 senior executives from Thailand and CP affiliates worldwide, with live broadcasts to all regions so CP personnel globally could witness, appreciate, and share inspiration from their colleagues' stories of goodness.

The 'CP 100 Stories of Goodness 24 Hours' program originated from the vision of senior chairman Thanin Chearavanont, chairman Suphacit Chearavanont, and senior vice chairman Suphachai Chearavanont, who sought to promote and advance a sustainable corporate culture of goodness. They believe goodness is not distant but arises from collective effort in small actions that grow into powerful forces driving society forward. 'Doing good can start with small things every day, and when everyone unites their strength, it becomes an important mechanism that helps develop society for the better,' reflecting the group's longstanding '3 Benefits' principle—consideration for the nation, people, and organization.

For this sixth edition, ten outstanding stories of goodness from across the group were selected through the 'We are CP' platform, where employees voted and shared stories across social media channels, receiving over one million views before final selection by the corporate committee. Seven award-winning stories emerged, demonstrating how each employee's small effort can create positive ripples throughout the community.

The seven award-winning stories reflect 'the heart of giving' across multiple dimensions. The first story, 'Braving the Flames to Stop Disaster Before It Spreads,' features CP Foods employee Donsuk Sinchai, who assisted in an automobile fire incident while returning from duty by using a fire extinguisher to contain the flames and control the situation until officials arrived, demonstrating courage and refusal to ignore others' lives.

Band Leader Yorch POW Releases Powerful Solo "Blow Your Mind" After Three Years of Development

POW band leader Yorch releases his debut solo single "Blow Your Mind" after three years of development with world-renowned producer Diplo, featuring collaborators Sik-K and Bryan Chase.

4h ago Khaosod

After nearly three years of training and development, Yorch POW from POW has finally released his debut Korean-style solo single "Blow Your Mind," marking an important milestone in his artistic career. The artist opened up about the pressure, effort, and dreams behind his journey to become a world-class Thai artist.

Yorch explained how he first heard the song during the promotion of his single "Valentine" while chatting with their main producer. "The moment I heard this song, I really wanted to sing it. At that time, it didn't have an owner, and I wasn't sure I'd actually get to perform it, but I hoped I would."

He added, "At first, I was singing it like Lucky Daye's original version, but it wasn't my style at all. No matter how many times I recorded it, I wasn't satisfied. But I didn't want to give up. I adjusted the song to fit myself better and practiced continuously. I received guidance from King Henry and Sasha Alex Sloan, and the song was refined over nearly three years."

What thrilled Yorch most was discovering the song was produced by world-renowned producer and DJ Diplo. "I was shocked to learn it was Diplo's work. I waited for feedback with excitement, and I was delighted to receive great feedback. There were also ideas to add featuring artists. After working and practicing for three years, I'm happiest that this song has become a reality."

The single also features artists Sik-K and Bryan Chase. Yorch noted, "The song became more colorful and diverse with their different sounds and rhythms. I think it really helped make the song better."

Touching moments came when his POW bandmates surprised him at the music video shoot to encourage him. "We came to give our leader and band head YORCH hyung encouragement," they said. Yorch was grateful: "I felt very tired, but when the members came and cheered me on, I immediately felt energized."

He concluded, "I love making music and always want to try new things. 'Blow Your Mind' is like the first step of a new challenge. I started as a child actor in Thailand, trained as a trainee, and now I stand here as an artist. I want to continue growing."

"I hope this growth will make me a proud Thai artist, not just in K-pop but on a world level, like senior Thai artists such as Lisa, BamBam, and Minnie. One day, I'd also like to collaborate with them."
