80-Year-Old 'Elvis Thailand' Transforms with Anti-Aging Facelift Surgery, Now Looks Like a Movie Star

An 80-year-old Thai man known as "Elvis Thailand" underwent a full facelift surgery and now looks noticeably younger, fulfilling his dream of maintaining a youthful appearance despite his age.

30 Apr Khaosod

"Elvis Thailand," an 80-year-old man born Somsak, has become a trending story again after undergoing a complete facial transformation. He opted for a full facelift procedure that left him looking noticeably younger, with many people praising his appearance as comparable to legendary stars from the 1980s-90s era.

Previously known for using facial tape before bed for years to reduce sagging skin, Somsak—known as "Grandpa Elvis"—finally decided to pursue professional cosmetic surgery to fulfill his dream of having a tight, firm face while maintaining a strong physique. He explained that despite turning 80, he still values his appearance, noting that body shape can be improved through exercise, but facial wrinkles and sagging require medical technology. The decision to have surgery at his age was difficult and required extensive research before he settled on renowned facial surgeon "Dr. Beam" at Beams Plastic Surgery in the Ratchapruk area.

Elvis Thailand emphasized his role as an elderly person who prioritizes self-care. He noted that many people opposed his surgery, asking why he would bother at his age. However, he responded: "Everything depends on ourselves. I'm not afraid of dying tomorrow—I just think about what makes me happy and what dreams I want to fulfill. The answer is wanting to be handsome. Even if I die tomorrow, at least today I'm satisfied." He stressed the importance of choosing accredited hospitals for such procedures, as they require anesthesia and close monitoring by anesthesiologists and specialist medical teams.

Two months post-surgery, the results have been impressive with barely visible scars and widespread compliments on his youthful appearance. People struggle to believe he's 80 years old. Having replaced his nightly facial tape routine with permanent surgical results, he now enjoys a tight, firm face without relying on tape anymore.

Warning: Online Scam Victim Loses Hundreds of Thousands After Posting Gold Bar Sale

A Pathum Thani woman lost 170,000 baht in gold bars after being tricked by an online scammer who posed as a buyer and arranged fraudulent courier pickup. Police are investigating the organized scam that exploited her trust during a video-ve

30 Apr Khaosod

A 31-year-old woman from Pathum Thani has filed a police report after losing 2 kilograms of gold bars valued at approximately 170,000 baht to online scammers. She is sharing her experience to warn other online buyers and sellers.

On the afternoon of April 28, the woman posted an advertisement selling gold bars in a gold collecting group—two bars at 85,000 baht each (170,000 baht total). A LINE message came in from someone interested in purchasing. After discussing details at length, the buyer claimed to be from Bueng Kan province. The seller was hesitant about shipping high-value items, so she asked about payment arrangements. The buyer suggested she deliver the package to a courier service, and he would transfer the money immediately.

The seller agreed, thinking that if the buyer didn't transfer the funds, she could cancel the shipment and retrieve the items. The buyer requested photos of the shop front, branch name, and location for verification purposes, and asked for 15 minutes' notice before arrival. During the delivery at the courier shop, the buyer kept the woman on a video call but wouldn't turn on his camera—he insisted she keep hers on. He claimed he wanted to verify the items were properly packaged and delivered.

After leaving the shop, the seller sat in her car waiting for the money transfer. About 10 minutes passed with no payment. She messaged that if he didn't transfer within 5 minutes, she would cancel the transaction. She rushed back into the shop to stop the shipment, but the staff said a rider had already picked it up, claiming to be the sender's boyfriend. The staff said they had called her, but she didn't answer during the video call, so they released the package. The seller realized she had been defrauded by an organized scam ring.

On the same day, Pol. Maj. Wiwat Asvaviboon, superintendent of Muang Pathum Thani Police Station, stated that investigators have taken the victim's statement as evidence and summoned the courier service staff to provide their account. An investigation is underway to identify and prosecute all individuals involved in the crime.

30 Apr Khaosod

Makro-Lotus, operating under CP EXTRA Public Company Limited, is reinforcing its leadership role in systematic surplus food and food waste management, covering the entire supply chain from source to end-point, to reduce environmental impact. Recently, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Koh Samui Municipality to manage surplus food from all 20 Makro-Lotus branches on the island, channeling it to various organizations for maximum benefit. The initiative includes organizing volunteers and youth to participate in beach cleanup activities, promoting environmental consciousness, and driving Koh Samui toward becoming a garbage-free island while advancing Thailand's sustainable natural resource conservation. This partnership between CP EXTRA and Koh Samui Municipality not only optimizes resource utilization but also achieves sustainable reductions in food waste and environmental impact, aligned with CP EXTRA's policy of systematic surplus food management targeting zero food waste to landfills by 2030. Simultaneously, CP EXTRA is implementing community-level waste management activities through the AXTRA Clean Ocean initiative, conducting monthly beach cleanups with volunteers and local communities to improve the area's appearance for tourists. This initiative serves as an important mechanism to drive waste management in tourism and key community areas nationwide, and represents a model that can be scaled to other regions throughout Thailand.

Cornered—Supachee's Fate: Isolated in the Political Storm

Deputy PM Supachee Sutharmpanthuk faces political isolation after a bungled durian price campaign, with no Palang Pracharath allies defending her and party members eyeing her Commerce Ministry seat.

30 Apr Khaosod

Political analysts had predicted that when Anutin Charnvirakul's government was formed, Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachee Sutharmpanthuk would be the first position to come under fire and struggle to survive. Though this seemed like unnecessarily harsh analysis when Anutin's second government began, once it took office after Songkran amid war crisis and economic hardship, Supachee's situation deteriorated within weeks. The latest durian price debacle has been particularly damaging—appearing with influencers offering 100 baht per fruit appeared to pressure fruit farmers nationwide. Notably, no government officials or Palang Pracharath members have publicly defended Deputy PM Supachee. Looking back at Supachee's entry into government, she began when the Thai Raksa Chart party helped Anutin form a minority government with numerous vacant ministerial seats. As an outsider minister alongside Ekniti Nitithanprapha and Seehasak Poungkatkheaw, she helped give the Palang Pracharath government a more professional image. This success was leveraged for the 2023 election to appeal to middle-class voters, earning her a continued ministerial position in Anutin's second government. The three outsiders became known as the "three kitchen moms" and won the party enough party-list votes to exceed targets. After winning, they joined the government as promised, along with other outsiders in defense and justice. This created tensions within Palang Pracharath, which lost several ministerial quota seats. As an outsider without supporting MPs or parliamentary advisors, Supachee lacks crucial allies. MPs and major party figures would prefer a Commerce Minister from their own ranks who understands farmers' struggles better than a technocrat. If the Commerce Ministry went to an MP, they might even secure an additional deputy minister position. Supachee's fate is becoming increasingly clear.

Editorial: The Durian Sales Drama

Government durian marketing intervention at 100 baht per fruit, intended to prevent oversupply, risks distorting prices and harming farmers despite good intentions, experts warn.

30 Apr Khaosod

The durian sales controversy has escalated into a political issue, reflecting more than just pricing debates or marketing strategy—it exposes the gap between government policy and the concerns of stakeholders including farmers, traders, and consumers.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthammaphand clarified that the measure is part of an aggressive marketing plan to handle an expected 33% increase in durian production and prevent market oversupply in the future.

Collaboration with influencers for online sales represents a modern tool well-suited to the times, capable of rapid product distribution, reaching vast numbers of consumers, and potentially helping clear inventory in the short term. This certainly reflects good intentions.

Yet the problem here lies in the method rather than the intent.

The promotional pricing strategy of 100 baht per durian, even if merely a temporary tactic or specific marketing condition of sellers, has created ripples across the broader market. This has especially alarmed durian farmers who fear this price will become a "psychological price point" that depresses production values long-term.

What requires careful consideration is that the durian market structure encompasses more than just "producers" and "consumers"—it also includes middlemen, exporters, and quality-based pricing systems.

Government intervention through special mechanisms like discounted live-stream sales may help move some inventory, but risks distorting overall price mechanisms without rigorous design.

Public expectations of the commerce minister go beyond addressing immediate problems; they demand long-term stability for the trading system while maintaining balance between fair pricing and product distribution.

This case cannot be viewed from a single perspective. One side may see it as an attempt to help farmers, while another views it as price suppression. To speak neutrally: it's a well-intentioned policy but one that lacks comprehensive impact assessment.

Though begun with good intentions to solve durian oversupply and assist growers, all measures require careful, multifaceted consideration covering all stakeholders. Viewing the problem from only one angle risks solving one group's problem while inadvertently creating new ones for another.

The hundred-baht durian saga thus serves as a major lesson for the commerce minister, who bears responsibility for agricultural prices, consumer goods, and ultimately the livelihoods of all people.

Mercer Releases Thailand's First 'Mercer RISE Survey 2026' to Enhance Retirement Planning for an Aging Society

30 Apr Khaosod

On April 30, 2026, Mercer released Thailand's first Retirement Insights and Strategy Evaluation (RISE) survey, drawing data from 173 leading Thai organizations. The survey shows that while nearly 98% of participating employers offer provident funds, many lack forward-thinking design suited to longer retirements as Thai life expectancy approaches 80 years. Winit Tipputtaragaew, Retirement Business Leader for Mercer Thailand and Southeast Asia, noted that retirement outcomes depend not just on having a plan, but on the quality of its design and management.

The survey found that even small differences in contribution levels, investment structure, and fund oversight can significantly compound over a 20-30 year retirement. However, a major concern is limited investment options for employees—only 3% of organizations use lifecycle or target-date approaches, with half lacking any default investment strategy. Mercer recommends implementing targeted improvements such as lifecycle investment approaches, clear contribution frameworks, and regular fund manager assessments to create sustainable financial security for long-term retirement.
