Firefighters rescued three Chihuahuas from a burning home in Udon Thani province on July 8 after the fire, which started near an electric motorcycle, was extinguished within 30 minutes.

Firefighters Rescue Three Dogs From Burning Udon Thani Home

On July 8, 2026, the emergency call center received a report of a fire at a residence in Ploy Villa village, Nong Bua subdistrict, Muang district, Udon Thani province. Firefighting units from Nong Bua and Udon Thani city administrations responded immediately.

When crews arrived, they found a single-story house with flames engulfing an electric motorcycle parked in front. The fire had already spread to an adjacent parked car. Firefighters deployed water cannons to prevent the flames from reaching the main structure. The fire was controlled within approximately 30 minutes.

Damage assessment revealed the electric motorcycle was a total loss, while the car sustained damage to its front half. The air conditioning compressor and portions of the house also suffered fire damage.

During the firefighting operation, neighbors reported that three dogs remained trapped inside. Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters quickly cleared smoke and searched the house, finding three Chihuahuas hiding in a bedroom. All three dogs were safely carried out, though they showed signs of fear, trembling, and tears, apparently traumatized by the incident.

Initial investigation revealed the homeowner was away working in another province when the fire occurred. Neighbors reported hearing three loud bangs resembling firecrackers or metal clashing before flames burst from the front of the house. They attempted to extinguish the fire with water from a hose but were unsuccessful, prompting them to alert other neighbors and call authorities.

Neighbor M, 67, recounted hearing three loud sounds before seeing the fire. He evacuated his household to safety and tried to fight the fire with a garden hose but was unable to control it.

Another neighbor, Jakkaphrong, reported hearing 3-4 loud bangs before seeing flames erupt from the electric motorcycle area. The fire spread rapidly because no one was home at the time.

Police and forensic investigators will conduct a detailed inspection tomorrow to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the full extent of damage.

The Narathiwat Provincial Court has handed down sentences in case no. 135/2569 against two defendants charged with illegally accumulating weapons and possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The charges stem from a July 6, 2022 confrontation between law enforcement and armed militants in the Sawaheela forest area of Rueso District, which resulted in two insurgent deaths.

The court sentenced the first defendant, Mussakir, to 14 years imprisonment and the second defendant, Usman, to 15 years. Key evidence included DNA forensic analysis linking both defendants to personal items recovered from the scene. Due to their confessions, which aided the investigation, sentences were reduced by half—Mussakir to 7 years 6 months and Usman to 7 years 12 months. Both defendants remain detained pending appeal.

A Berlin court has sentenced Johannes M., a 41-year-old palliative care doctor, to life imprisonment for murdering 15 patients—12 women and 3 men—between September 2021 and July 2024. All victims were between 25 and 94 years old and critically ill. Authorities believe these killings may be just the beginning, with prosecutors investigating 76 additional cases linked to the doctor. Prosecutors told the court that M. administered multiple medications in lethal doses without patient consent during home visits, and on several occasions attempted to set fires to conceal evidence of his crimes. In July 2024, shortly before his arrest, M. killed two patients in a single day—a 75-year-old man at his home in central Berlin and a 76-year-old woman in a nearby district, attempting unsuccessfully to set fire to the woman's house. Throughout the year-long trial, M. initially denied all charges but confessed in June to killing 12 severely ill patients. He claimed he acted with good intentions to relieve their suffering and expressed remorse for the distress caused.

Husband Attacks Wife At Massage Shop In Chonburi
3h ago Khaosod

A shocking incident occurred at a health massage shop in Plu Ta Luang Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, when a husband assaulted his wife—a massage therapist—by choking her, forcing bathroom cleaning solution into her mouth, and using an electrical current to shock her before consuming the chemical himself. Both sustained serious injuries. Fortunately, the shop owner was monitoring security cameras, spotted the abnormal activity, and quickly called friends and neighbors for help.

CCTV footage from the shop shows that Chalat Kwanjoo, 57, arrived at the massage shop to meet his wife Phayao Kwanjoo, 48, who works as a therapist. He was carrying a backpack and clothes. The footage also shows that Phayao had called friends and the shop owner, complaining that her husband had come to find her and expressing worry about accommodations, since two new massage therapists were arriving to work and would need to share sleeping quarters in the shop.

Phayao then walked to the back of the shop before Chalat followed her and closed the rear door. He then choked his wife until she lost consciousness, exited, and locked the front door from inside before returning to assault her again. This time he used an electrical current to shock her and forced bathroom cleaning solution into her mouth, then drank the chemical himself.

While the assault was happening, the shop owner—monitoring the security cameras and noticing something wrong—quickly called friends and neighbors for help. When they arrived, they found both of them unconscious inside the shop and immediately called emergency responders and police. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police will conduct a detailed investigation once both victims are stable enough to provide statements, after which legal proceedings will follow.

Massive Herd of Wild Elephants Destroys Farmland in Prachuap Buri
4h ago Khaosod

Prachuap Buri—A critical human-wildlife conflict has escalated around Thap Lan National Park as over 80 wild elephants, fleeing severe drought conditions, migrated across two provinces from Nakhon Ratchasima into Prachuap Buri. The massive herd descended on agricultural areas in Ban Tung Phi, Nadi District, destroying farmland and compounding existing tensions over land rights disputes at the national park.

When park officials responded to reports of elephants feeding on crops, they found nearly a dozen elephants destroying banana plantations, coconut trees, and other fruit plants belonging to local residents. Officers successfully drove the herd back into the forest to ensure public safety.

When surveying the damage, reporters met Jiam To Suengnoen, 80, and his wife Rabiang To Suengnoen, 75, owners of a 5-acre mixed fruit farm that was devastated. The couple, still shaken, described how during heavy rain one evening, Rabiang spotted nearly 10 large elephants attacking banana, coconut, durian, and mangosteen plants near their home. Frightened, they fled to the second floor. Rabiang then opened a window and pleaded with the elephants: "Please stop. Leave some fruit for us to eat. You can go now." Remarkably, the herd paused and looked back at her.

During the crisis, a young elephant fell into a pond beside the house and cried out in distress. The mother elephant used her intelligence and trunk to safely lift her calf from the water before the entire herd was driven back into the forest.

Jiam expressed despair that this was the third elephant raid on his farm this year, and the most severe. The herd consumed over 50 banana plants he had carefully nurtured through a severe drought, only to lose them just as the rainy season promised a harvest. He appealed to government agencies for urgent assistance.

Prasatsat Chanthep, director of Thap Lan National Park, revealed that this represents the largest elephant gathering on record for the area. Approximately 60 elephants migrated from Nakhon Ratchasima's Korat and Udomthani subdistricts, joining 20-30 resident elephants in Prachuap Buri, forming a herd exceeding 80. The director identified three main factors driving the behavioral change: severe drought, erratic climate patterns during the rainy season, and habitat loss within the forest.

FBI Investigates Argentine Football Federation Over Money Laundering

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is under investigation by the FBI and U.S. federal prosecutors for allegations of money laundering and financial corruption. According to Yahoo News, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. federal prosecutors are conducting an investigation into the AFA regarding money laundering and financial misconduct. Based on reporting from Argentine news outlet La Nación, officials are examining commercial agreements and financial management related to the AFA's operations in the United States. The investigation centers on the flow of hundreds of millions of dollars through the U.S. financial system and various AFA transactions that may violate U.S. law. No criminal charges have been announced at this stage. In December 2025, the AFA and multiple Argentine football clubs were raided by authorities as part of an investigation into money laundering and tax evasion involving a financial company. This investigation does not affect Argentina's national team competing in the 2026 World Cup, which is currently preparing for a semifinal match against Switzerland on July 11.
