Thai windsurfers waited in vain as the wind failed to arrive. After two days they managed to compete in only one event and a single race. Organizers were confident that wind would pick up starting October 1, 2026.
The Thai windsurfing team for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, consists of four athletes: "Will" William McMillan, a Thai‑Australian in the men’s IQ Foil open class; "Dao" Siriporn Kaewduangnam in the women’s IQ Foil open; "Whale" Wachiravit Thanonop in the boys’ under‑19 IQ Foil; and "Cake" Chanatchakan Jareonsuk in the girls’ under‑19 IQ Foil, under team manager Ek Boonsawat, coach Sakda Sakulfaeng, and coach "Oat" Natthaphong Phonoparat.
Latest, Pattana Boonsawat, secretary-general of the Thailand Windsurfing Association, who came to monitor and support the athletes at the venue, said the windsurfing team was scheduled to compete from September 29 to October 3, 2026, but unfavorable weather with no wind prevented competition. On September 29, racing was canceled, while on September 30 only the men’s open IQ Foil class managed a single race, in which William McMillan finished tied for fifth with a net penalty of seven points. He admitted the athletes are slightly frustrated, as everyone wanted to compete fully, and they are praying for better weather soon.
Originally the program called for five days of five races each, but due to the weather conditions only the races that can be held will count, with five races per day as planned. However, the race organizers said that from October 1 onward wind will be sufficient for competition to proceed.
