Bus Driver Found Dead in Sleeping Quarters
A bus driver on a Mukdahan-Hua Hin route died in his sleeping quarters near Amnat Charoen on July 4, with preliminary indications suggesting sudden cardiac arrest.
At 8:20 AM on July 4, 2025, Lieutenant Colonel Pisit Raksaphol, an investigative officer at Amnat Charoen City Police Station, received a report of a bus driver found dead on a Mukdahan-Hua Hin passenger route. Emergency responders and a duty doctor from Amnat Charoen Hospital were dispatched to investigate.
The bus had stopped on the inbound side of Amnat Charoen, approximately 300 meters past the hospital entrance. Officers found the body of Mr. Phitthak, approximately 50 years old from Mukdahan Province, lying in the driver's sleeping compartment at the rear of the vehicle.
When questioned, the second driver, Mr. Wiratt, explained that the bus had three drivers total. The deceased was the first driver, who had been driving from Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan until reaching Si Khio in Nakhon Ratchasima, where he complained of feeling unwell with stomach pain and could no longer drive. The third driver took over, and the deceased went to rest in the rear sleeping area.
The second driver said he observed the deceased's condition and asked if he needed a hospital visit, but the deceased requested to rest, saying he would feel better. When the bus reached Amnat Charoen and stopped near the hospital, the second driver went to check on him before the vehicle continued, but it was too late.
Initial police examination found no signs of physical trauma. Preliminary assessment suggests sudden cardiac arrest, though authorities will conduct a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
