China Denies Arming Cambodia, Reaffirms Thai Alliance
China denied providing weapons to Cambodia during talks with Thai military officials, reaffirming its alliance with Thailand and calling for peaceful resolution of the border conflict between the neighboring countries.
On August 4, Lieutenant General Theeranant Nantkhwang, director of the Army Information Department, received Major General Zhang Linhong, assistant military attaché of the People's Republic of China in Thailand, and his delegation for talks on military relations between the two countries' armies. The Chinese military attaché expressed concern about the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, noting that as longtime neighbors, both nations should pursue peaceful solutions together. He emphasized that Thailand and China are steadfast allies with deep ties, and that China has been transparent and sincere with Thailand. China stressed it had no involvement in supplying weapons for Cambodia's military operations and confirmed it has instructed Cambodia not to deploy any military equipment in the Thai-Cambodian border area.
