Cristiano Ronaldo plans to retire from the Portuguese national team after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to a statement from his sister Katia Aveiro. The 41-year-old has earned 232 caps for Portugal since making his debut in 2003, guiding the nation to victory at Euro 2016 and winning the UEFA Nations League in 2018-19 and 2024-25.

Ahead of Portugal's Round of 32 World Cup clash against Croatia on July 3, Aveiro told Sport TV that Ronaldo will say goodbye to the Portuguese team after this tournament concludes.

"From the information I've received, they may already be saying farewell—not today, but I believe this is the goodbye," Aveiro said. "I'm talking about the national team. From reliable sources, this will be his final dance."
