Dramatic Escape: Spurs Survive Relegation with Win Over Everton – West Ham Goes Down to Championship
Tottenham survived Premier League relegation on the final day with a 1-0 win over Everton, while West Ham's victory over Leeds proved too little and dropped them to the Championship after 14 years in the top flight.
Tottenham Hotspur escaped relegation on the final day of the 2025/2026 Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 home win over Everton, courtesy of Joa Palinha's 43rd-minute goal. The Lilywhites finished with 41 points from 38 matches, securing their place in the Premier League for a 48th consecutive season dating back to 1978/79.
The tension was palpable before kickoff, with Tottenham in 17th place just two points ahead of West Ham in 18th. Spurs needed at least a draw while hoping West Ham would lose, and Hammers needed an outright victory and a Spurs loss to survive.
West Ham came from behind to beat Leeds United 2-0 at home, with goals from Valentin Castañeda (67th minute) and Jarrod Bowen (79th minute), giving them 39 points from 38 matches. However, it proved insufficient as they finished 18th and will drop into the Championship for the first time since the 2012/13 season, ending a 14-year run in the Premier League. The club recovered from their last relegation in 2010/11 after just one season.
West Ham, Burnley, and Wolves have been relegated to the Championship, while Coventry, Ipswich, and Hull City have been promoted as replacements.
