Deputy PM Anutin Prays at City Pillar Before No-Confidence Debate
Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine and the Ministry of Defense ahead of a no-confidence debate against 18 cabinet ministers. He participated in a marching drill with military officials and instructed the armed forces to continue assisting flood-affected communities until normal life resumes. Anutin thanked the military for its recent disaster relief efforts.
At 11:11 a.m. on October 21, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, accompanied by his wife Tanyanant Charnvirakul, visited the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine to pay homage for good fortune before the opposition's no-confidence debate against 18 ministers. They were welcomed by Defence Minister General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Polpeer Suwanchavee, and Defence Ministry Permanent Secretary General Saran Petranan.
Shrine officials led the delegation through five sacred stations: the Buddha image hall, the city pillar replica pavilion, the city pillar shrine, the five guardian deity shrines, and the lantern-oil refilling ceremony for prosperity.
The group then proceeded to the Ministry of Defense to pay respects to the shrine of Chao Pho Ho Klong. General Adul gave a tour of the ministry buildings.
Noticing marked positions on the floor taped for marching drill practice, Anutin asked about their purpose. General Adul explained they were for daily morning marching rehearsals. The Deputy PM joined the 20-minute drill himself, accompanied by the Defence Ministry permanent secretary, in a relaxed atmosphere as ministry staff requested photos.
At 12:10 p.m., General Adul hosted a luncheon at the third-floor reception room, serving the same simple fare as military personnel: chicken tom yum, omelette, chili dip with fresh vegetables, stir-fried barramundi, and stir-fried cabbage with fish sauce, followed by sweetened mung beans.
During lunch, Anutin instructed the military to continuously assist and accelerate recovery for flood-affected citizens until normalcy returns and people can resume regular lives. He thanked the military for mobilizing personnel and equipment to help during the recent crisis.
Before departing at 12:55 p.m., Anutin thanked General Adul for the hospitality and noted the visit provided close insight into the troops' conditions.
