Drug Bust at Ban Thom Municipality: Six Employees Test Positive, Two Caught Attempting to Use Fake Urine Samples
Six Phayao municipality employees tested positive for drugs during a mandatory screening on May 8, with two others caught attempting to cheat tests using fake urine samples.
On May 8, Phayao Province continued its drug enforcement operations under the Blue Eagle unit's supervision, conducting urine drug tests on Ban Thom Subdistrict Municipality staff in Mueang Phayao District. The operation was initiated after citizens filed complaints through the @orn.pyao Line account to Governor Aon, alleging that multiple employees were involved in drug use. Provincial and district security forces tested 106 municipal personnel including administrators, civil servants, municipal employees, and contract workers, discovering six positive drug test results: two firefighters, one municipal worker, one park maintenance staff, one disaster prevention officer, and one water system technician. The municipality immediately terminated all affected employees and enrolled them voluntarily in rehabilitation treatment programs under Health Ministry protocols. Additionally, officials discovered two other municipal employees attempting to use fake urine samples to avoid drug testing, prompting further investigation into additional suspects. Phayao Province reaffirmed its commitment to rigorously eliminate drug use from government agencies without exception, regardless of internal connections, to restore public confidence and ensure a truly drug-free civil service.
