A chaotic incident unfolded at a temple in Nonthaburi on the evening of October 29, 2026, when a monk and a temple worker engaged in a physical fight that left both injured. At 7:30 PM, Police Lieutenant Colonel Noppaporn Samphethong, Deputy Superintendent of Sai Noi Police Station, received a report of a brawl between a monk and a temple worker at a temple in Sai Noi district. Police and rescue workers from Thawi Watthana Subdistrict Municipality rushed to the scene.
They found Phra Ched, 65, a resident monk, and Mr. Somchat, 53, the temple worker, both with facial and head injuries from assault. They administered first aid and sent them to Pimolrat Hospital.
Phra Ched stated he suffered injuries to his ear and head after Mr. Somchat struck him with a wooden stick and a rock. He said the conflict started when Mr. Somchat cursed at and chased away a barking dog. Phra Ched intervened, only grabbing Mr. Somchat's arm, which angered him. Mr. Somchat then attacked him while appearing heavily intoxicated.
Mr. Somchat, the alleged aggressor, was detained by police, handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car while heavily drunk. He had a wound on his mouth. He claimed he argued with the monk about funeral work because the monk said there was no money. Regarding the dog, he said the monk did not provoke it; the dog was already barking. He alleged the monk grabbed his head and slammed it to the ground, breaking his mouth. He admitted to regularly drinking alcohol as a temple worker.
The abbot stated the pair fought over the temple dog barking. The monk tried to stop the dog, but it would not listen, and Mr. Somchat struck the dog. Mr. Somchat resides at the temple and often argues with the monk. They had quarreled earlier in the evening, and police had already intervened once. Later, they grappled and fought again: the monk slapped him, and Mr. Somchat used a stick to hit the monk. The abbot confirmed Mr. Somchat was drunk at the time and that this behavior occurs every time he drinks.
