Alcaraz Still Troubled by Wrist Injury, Withdraws from Wimbledon and Another Grand Slam

Spain's world number two Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from Wimbledon and the French Open due to a persistent wrist injury that has sidelined him since the Barcelona Open in early 2026.

14h ago Khaosod

Spain's world number two Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will skip Wimbledon 2026, the year's third Grand Slam, due to an ongoing wrist injury. Alcaraz's wrist problem forced him to withdraw after the first round of the Barcelona Open 2026. The 22-year-old then underwent medical evaluation to assess the injury's severity and subsequently withdrew from the Italian Open, and most recently from the French Open 2026, set to begin on May 18, despite being the two-time defending champion. Originally planning to return to grass courts at Queen's Club and compete at Wimbledon in June and July, Alcaraz confirmed he is not fit enough to compete. "My recovery is progressing well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I'm not ready to compete yet, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass court tournaments at Queen's and Wimbledon," Alcaraz wrote on Instagram. "Both tournaments mean so much to me and I'll miss them greatly. We'll keep working to get back as soon as possible." Alcaraz maintains a commanding 6,000-point lead over Germany's third-ranked Alexander Zverev in the world standings, so he should retain his number two ranking even if he misses the rest of the season.

Natural Resources and Environment Ministry Elevates Work Standards, Advances Transparent and Corruption-Free Government System

Thailand's Natural Resources and Environment Ministry is implementing stricter anti-corruption measures through centralized online complaint systems, improved work procedures, and personnel oversight following private sector feedback on gov

14h ago Khaosod

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is raising work standards and advancing a transparent, corruption-free government system. At 10:30 a.m. on May 19, 2569, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin assigned Permanent Secretary Dr. Raviwan Phuridej to chair a meeting discussing private sector survey results regarding transparency in government operations. The meeting included deputy permanent secretaries, inspectors, agency heads, state enterprises, and public organizations to discuss anti-corruption implementation strategies following the private sector opinion survey release.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Raviwan stated that Minister Suchart prioritizes addressing corruption through a centralized online complaint platform using modern technology including AI. The anti-corruption prevention and suppression center under the permanent secretary's office will serve as the central hub, coordinating with other prevention centers within the ministry to ensure rapid and transparent operations.

During the meeting, the permanent secretary emphasized the ministry's zero-tolerance corruption policy, turning crisis into opportunity. The ministry focuses on two key areas: work systems and personnel management. For work systems, all units must identify critical functions most vulnerable to corruption, particularly in licensing and approval processes, then develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), establish online platforms to reduce official discretion, and ensure clarity and transparency with proactive public communication. For personnel management, the ministry emphasizes recruiting capable individuals at all levels, fostering good organizational values and culture, enabling direct corruption complaints to management, and strictly enforcing disciplinary action when violations are found.

The permanent secretary concluded that the ministry welcomes recommendations from all sectors. While the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) was invited but unable to attend due to prior commitments, the ministry encourages any internal units with questions about the corruption risk assessment to coordinate directly with NACC or establish joint working committees between the ministry and NACC to review high-risk agency functions, advancing the Zero Corruption agenda constructively to improve the country's transparency image.

Major Ice Dealer 'Geng Thongsoe' Arrested with 2 Large Bags of Crystal Meth in Rayong Drug Crackdown

Police arrested a major ice dealer in Rayong with nearly 200 grams of crystal meth following complaints about drug sales to teenagers and laborers at a rental house in Pak Nam Subdistrict.

14h ago Khaosod

On May 19, 2025, special suppression police from Muang Rayong Police Station, working with provincial rangers, arrested 43-year-old Thongdee, also known as 'Geng Thongsoe,' a Saraburi native. Officers seized 195.16 grams of crystal methamphetamine and his urine tested positive for drug use. The arrest followed public complaints about illegal drug sales at a rental house in Pak Nam Subdistrict, where teenagers and laborers were constantly coming and going.

After continuous investigation, authorities determined that Thongdee operated as a mid-level drug distributor, receiving crystal meth and reselling it to teenagers and workers in Muang Rayong and surrounding areas. He conducted transactions via phone and chat applications, arranging deliveries at rental rooms, street corners, and roadsides to evade capture. He frequently changed delivery locations to avoid police surveillance. Officers gathered evidence and executed a search warrant before making the arrest.

Thongdee confessed that all the seized methamphetamine was his. He stated he purchased approximately 400 grams at a time from someone named 'New Petchbun' at 10,000 baht per unit, then resold individual grams to customers at 16,000 baht per gram. He claimed he used the drug proceeds to pay debts and personal expenses through phone-coordinated transactions.

Authorities have charged Thongdee and are pursuing the drug supply network and sources of the narcotics.

Heartbroken Mother Discovers Secret Letter from 18-Year-Old Daughter Revealing Repeated Sexual Abuse by Uncle, Death Threats, and Pregnancy

An 18-year-old girl in Udon Thani reported being sexually assaulted multiple times by her uncle, revealing the abuse through a secret letter to her mother that also disclosed her pregnancy. Police are investigating the 38-year-old suspect o

14h ago Khaosod

On May 19, a 40-year-old mother brought her 18-year-old daughter to Mueang Udon Thani Police Station to file a complaint against a 38-year-old man named Nai Nod, accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting the teenager at a residence in Ban Dong Kaeng, Ban Chan subdistrict. The case is being investigated by Lt. Adulshai Khao Kham of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station.

The victim tearfully recounted that the first assault occurred on the evening of April 12 when she was 17 years old. After showering, her uncle called her over, then dragged her into the bathroom and forcibly assaulted her. Following this incident, she was raped a total of six times, with the most recent occurrence on May 7. Each time, the perpetrator threatened to kill her and her entire family if she told anyone, causing her to live in constant fear and silence.

Unable to endure the trauma alone, the teenager decided to confess to her mother but was afraid her uncle would discover her attempt. She resorted to writing a secret letter on paper, claiming it was a new phone number, and handed it to her mother. When the mother read the letter at home, she was shocked to discover the details of the sexual assaults and pregnancy.

The mother immediately retrieved her daughter and heard the full account. The victim explained she had never dared tell anyone because of the threats, and because the perpetrator was her own uncle—a family member who had helped raise her since childhood. She never imagined he would commit such terrible acts.

The mother purchased a pregnancy test kit, which showed a positive result with two lines, indicating pregnancy. However, she decided to file the police complaint before seeking medical confirmation to ensure swift legal action against the perpetrator. She vowed to pursue the case fully and refused any settlement or communication with the accused, fearing he might flee or tamper with evidence.

When police went to Nai Nod's house, he was not present. Journalists who visited the residence interviewed Nai Nod's 61-year-old mother, Khun Nee. She acknowledged knowing about the assault accusations and that her son had been charged, noting that the evidence appeared quite clear since her granddaughter had lived with them for an extended period.

Nai Nod's mother stated that seven family members shared the house, including herself, her husband, her daughter, Nai Nod, two other grandchildren, and an elderly grandmother. She claimed that during the alleged incidents, she was home as usual but noticed nothing unusual and heard no cries for help or quarreling. When asked if she believed the accusations, she admitted that given the circumstances and the victim's supporting evidence, she had to accept the situation.
