Fugitive Suspect Captured After Six-Day Manhunt in Samui
Fugitive "Tao" was captured after six days on the run from Samui Provincial Court, found hiding in hills near Bo Phut after police tracked him to his home where he made risky food runs.
A six-day manhunt has ended with the arrest of Vorintr, nicknamed "Tao," who escaped from custody at Samui Provincial Court on September 16 by breaking free from his handcuffs and fleeing into the hills. Police from Bo Phut Station, along with volunteers who provided tips, surrounded and apprehended him around 2 p.m. today.
According to Deputy Superintendent Bunyacherd Manechai of Bo Phut Police Station, the suspect fled along natural trails and hid in the hills for several days. After receiving a tip that he had come down to find food, officers raided a target residence. Although they missed him by only five minutes, they persisted and eventually arrested him and brought him in for questioning.
During interrogation, Vorintr remained confused and contradictory. He denied doing anything wrong and claimed his handcuffs simply fell off, forcing him to run. He stated he escaped on foot through natural routes in the hills and forest without eating anything. He later claimed to have spent several days at home before capture. However, when officers searched his residence, they found evidence he had sneaked in to eat but they arrived only five minutes after he left.
Deputy Superintendent Bunyacherd noted that the suspect's poor mental clarity made interrogation difficult and his statements inconsistent. The officer observed that while Tao claimed to have stayed home for days, field evidence showed he actually made brief, risky visits to eat at his house, narrowly escaping detection each time.
