Police recovered cartridge casings and blood at the scene, and are pursuing the suspects who fled into a nearby rubber plantation.
At 10:00 a.m. on October 18, 2026, senior police officials and forensic teams arrived at the scene on Highway 4060 near Ban Chua Rae in Rue So District, Narathiwat Province, where two gunmen had opened fire with M16 rifles on Pol. Lt. T. Usman Nimmayu, a 58‑year‑old deputy inspector of the Marine Police. The officer was shot four times and died at the spot; the attackers then took his 9mm sidearm and mobile phone before fleeing into a nearby rubber plantation. Investigators recovered four 5.56 mm cartridge casings and bloodstains, and noted trampled vegetation in the bushes opposite the kilometer marker, indicating the ambush site. They learned that Usman had been riding a white‑pink Honda Scoopy to a relative’s house to help prepare a circumcision ceremony when he was attacked just 50 meters from the home. His body was taken to Rue So Hospital, then returned to his family for religious rites and buried that night in the local cemetery amid mourning from relatives and villagers.
