Heavy rain continues to fall in Chiang Rai from early morning, causing the Mae Korn River to flood four villages. The provincial governor has ordered emergency relief efforts and warned drivers to use the Suan Dok intersection with extreme caution.

At 8:50 AM on July 30, 2025, reporters documented continuous heavy rain from 4:00–5:00 AM in the Mae Saat and Pang Pa Kao areas and surrounding regions, with accumulated rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters. This triggered a surge of water from upstream areas flowing into the Suan Dok area in Mae Korn Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Rai District, inundating homes and several roads.

Water has now reached the Suan Dok intersection, which connects Highway 5 to Dong Mada and the route to Singha Park in Mueang Chiang Rai, linking onward to Dong Mada Subdistrict in Mae Lao District. Although water depth is not severe, strong currents continue to flow through the area, and drivers can still pass but must exercise special caution.

Provincial Governor Chucheep Phongchai has ordered the Chiang Rai Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office to work with local authorities to provide urgent assistance to residents after flooding from the Mae Korn River has affected four villages in Mae Korn Subdistrict: Ban Pang Rim Korn, Ban Pang Kok, Ban Mai, and Ban Fang Min, with close monitoring of the situation.

The Hydrology Division 2 at the Chiang Rai Water Resources Department reported that the Mae Saat early warning station recorded 99 millimeters of accumulated rainfall in 12 hours, with periods of heavy rain reaching 4.5 millimeters in 15 minutes. The Nong Khiao station in Mae Korn Subdistrict measured approximately 108 millimeters of accumulated rainfall in 12 hours as of 6:21 AM, resulting in rapid flash flooding across the area.

All agencies continue to survey damage and assist residents. The public is urged to monitor the situation closely if they must travel through the Suan Dok intersection and low-lying areas, and to exercise caution until water levels return to normal.
