Heavy Rain, Storms Forecast for Thailand Oct 24-28
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a five-day severe weather warning for October 24-28, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain across southern Thailand and thunderstorms with strong gusts in northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. The alert covers dozens of provinces and urges residents to prepare for flash floods, forest runoff, and dangerous sea conditions with waves over two meters.
Starting today, a full five days, the Thai Meteorological Department has issued Warning No. 2 for heavy rain and unsettled weather from October 24-28, listing the provinces expected to be hit hardest and urging caution against floods and flash flooding.
On October 24, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department announced heavy to very heavy rain in southern Thailand and unsettled weather in upper Thailand (effective October 24-28, 2026), Announcement No. 2 (274/2026).
During October 24-28, 2026, southern Thailand will experience continuous rain with heavy downpours in many areas and very heavy rain in some places. The public is warned of dangers from accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in foothill areas near waterways, low-lying basins, and areas prone to inundation.
From October 25-27, 2026, upper Thailand will face unsettled weather with thunderstorms, strong gusty winds, and heavy rain in some areas, affecting the Northeast first. The North, Central region (including Bangkok and its vicinity), and the East will be affected subsequently. The public should beware of thunderstorms and strong gusts, and avoid staying in open areas, under large trees, or near unstable billboards.
This is due to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, causing easterly winds to cover Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, while the monsoon trough passing through the South strengthens.
In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves will exceed two meters in areas with thunderstorms. Mariners in the Gulf and Andaman should navigate with caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm areas.
For safety and to minimize impacts, the public is advised to plan daily activities and travel carefully during this period. People should continuously monitor announcements from the Thai Meteorological Department at www.tmd.go.th or call 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours.
Announced on October 24, 2026 at 05:00 hrs. The next announcement will be issued on October 24, 2026 at 17:00 hrs.
