His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen proceeded to Amarinthravinijchaya Throne Hall to perform a merit-making ceremony marking the birthday anniversary of the late Queen Sirikit, the Millennium Queen, on August 12, 2026. Upon arrival, the King lit incense and flowers to pay homage to a Buddha image from the reign of King Rama IX positioned before the hall. The Queen similarly made offerings of incense and flowers to the portrait of Queen Sirikit at the main dais. Thirty Buddhist monks chanted prayers in honor of the late Queen. The King and Queen presented candles and listened as a sermon was delivered on the theme of wisdom. The King then offered robes to the monks in two separate distributions of fifteen and sixteen robes respectively. On August 12, 2025, at 18:30 local time, Border Patrol Police Headquarters announced the results of a major drug trafficking interdiction operation. Officers had received a tip from a local informant about a suspected methamphetamine shipment being transported in a white Mitsubishi Pajero with Chiang Rai plates along the Mae Sai to Chiang Saen route. Deputy Commander Rungsimun Songkharatham ordered the Chiang Saen Border Patrol unit, led by Lieutenant Thanavat Thipwattri, to set up checkpoints along Route 1016.

At 04:30 on August 12, officers spotted the target vehicle near Ban Pang Mo Phuang in Chiang Saen district. When signaled to stop, the driver accelerated and charged toward police, damaging a barrier before attempting to flee. Officers fired at the vehicle's tires and pursued it until the driver lost control on Route 1016 near Doi Sri Kaeo village. The vehicle struck a road median and came to a stop.

The driver, identified as Sane Phu, 30, from Mae Ngoen subdistrict in Chiang Saen, fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by pursuing officers. Police searched the vehicle and discovered 20 rainbow-colored bags containing 4 million methamphetamine pills concealed in the rear seating area. The suspect was taken into custody and charged accordingly. Police Commander General Rungroj Thakoonpunyasiri highlighted the successful integration of multiple agencies in preventing drug trafficking, stating that coordinated efforts across all divisions have proven highly effective in dismantling trafficking networks.

A school principal in Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai has come under intense online scrutiny after a parent posted security camera footage allegedly showing him striking a second-grade student hard on the head during a morning flag ceremony and prayer lineup. According to the video, the man identified as the school administrator noticed two students playing around, said "Oh, playing again," then walked over to one student and hit him on the head with an audible slap before asking "Who else wants one?" The incident has upset parents and sparked debate over the appropriateness of the administrator's conduct. Parents argue that if a child misbehaves, staff should use warnings or verbal instruction rather than physical force. The case has drawn widespread online attention, with parents and viewers calling on the Education Ministry and the school's oversight body to urgently investigate the facts and consider disciplinary action if violence is confirmed, with the aim of protecting student safety and preventing similar incidents. The authorities involved are currently re-examining the facts of the incident and the identity of the person in the video.

On August 12, 2025, Chaiyon Amphansan, Deputy Inspector of Wang Takian Police Station in Prachuap Khiri Khan, responded to a report of a 22-wheel trailer truck's wheels detaching and rolling into a motorcycle stopped at a red light. The incident occurred at the Wang Tha Chang intersection on Highway 359 between Phonmsakam and Sa Kaew in Wang Tha Chang Subdistrict, Kabinburi District. Two people were injured. Officers and rescue units from the Satchcha Buddhist Foundation of Thailand rushed to the scene and found an overturned motorcycle with severe damage, pinned by the massive dual rear wheels. The male and female riders had been thrown from the bike and lay crying in pain. Both are schoolteachers with serious injuries to their right legs. Rescue workers provided emergency first aid before rushing them to hospital.

The 22-wheel truck remained parked at the scene with its rear right axle bolt broken and one pair of dual wheels missing. The injured male teacher reported that he and his girlfriend were returning home after paying respects to his mother and were heading to Khao Yai National Park for a trip. When they reached the intersection, it was red light. While waiting, the 22-wheel trailer suddenly turned across from ahead, and its rear wheels detached, rolling straight into their motorcycle with violent force. They were thrown from the bike before they could brace themselves.

The truck driver told police he was traveling from Khao Hin Sop and intended to turn into a field at the Wang Tha Chang red light intersection. During the turn, he did not realize the rear axle bolt had snapped and the wheels had come loose. Only when he checked his mirror did he see the wheels rolling away and striking the motorcycle, injuring its riders. He immediately stopped to help. Police initially questioned the driver for further witness statements to proceed with legal action and coordinated compensation and medical expenses for the injured parties.

At 5:10 p.m. on August 12, 2569, Kamala Police received a report of a fire at a luxury villa in Moo 6, Kamala Subdistrict, Kathu District, Phuket. Police immediately notified their superior and coordinated with Kamala Municipal firefighters to control the blaze.

According to initial questioning, an acquaintance of the homeowner spotted smoke and flames on the upper floor and alerted authorities. When firefighters arrived, flames were visible erupting from the third floor. Firefighters quickly brought the situation under control and extinguished the fire.

Preliminary findings show that the third floor sustained fire damage. At the time of the incident, no residents were inside the house, and there were no injuries or fatalities.

Kamala Police investigators have conducted an initial examination of the scene and are gathering details to determine the cause of the fire. Further action and additional details will be announced later.
