‘Mai Khao As One’ unites for a cleaner coastline
Phuket's Mai Khao Beach, an 11-kilometer undeveloped coastline, serves as vital nesting habitat for endangered sea turtles, prompting a community cleanup initiative called "Mai Khao As One" to protect the shoreline.
Walk along Mai Khao Beach early in the morning and you’ll understand why it’s special. At roughly 11 kilometers, the relatively undeveloped shoreline of Phuket’s longest beach provides critical habitat for marine life – including nesting sites for endangered sea turtles that return to lay eggs along the sand each year.
