Meteorological Department Issues 8th Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain, and Flash Flood Risk
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flash flood risks across most regions through May 10, with the south expected to be hardest hit.
On May 9, 2569, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its 8th weather alert (57/2569) warning of unstable atmospheric conditions across Thailand through May 10, 2569. The northern, northeastern, eastern, and central regions, including Bangkok and surrounding areas, will experience thunderstorms with strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall in some locations.
Following this system, temperatures will decrease as a high-pressure zone and cold air mass from China moves over the northeastern region and the South China Sea. Combined with southerly and southeasterly winds bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea, the upper regions of Thailand will experience increased humidity.
Easterly winds strengthening over the southern region and Gulf of Thailand are expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to parts of the south.
Authorities urge the public to exercise caution against thunderstorms and strong winds by avoiding open areas, large trees, buildings, and weak structures. Residents should also be alert to the dangers of heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash floods and flash flooding.
Farmers are advised to reinforce fruit trees and prepare protective measures for agricultural products and livestock. Citizens should also monitor their health during this period of weather instability.
The public is encouraged to monitor updates from the Thai Meteorological Department via their website at http://www.tmd.go.th or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182, available 24 hours daily. The next weather bulletin will be issued on May 9, 2569 at 5:00 PM.
