Thailand's Education Ministry plans to cut major programs and reduce teacher workload, with a formal announcement expected May 27 to give educators more time for classroom instruction.
On May 21, 2569, Deputy Minister of Education Akkhananth Kannakittinant revealed following discussions on reducing teacher and education personnel workload that multiple programs should be reduced and terminated without adding new initiatives. Akkhananth stated that several major programs may need to be ended, which would bring good news for teachers by helping reduce unnecessary work burdens and allowing teachers sufficient time to fully develop student instruction and improve education quality. He noted that evaluation matters require further separate discussion. The Deputy Minister indicated that on May 27, Education Minister Prasert Chantharavungtong will make an official announcement regarding the teacher workload reduction initiative, emphasizing that the ministry and all participants are treating this matter with great importance and genuine commitment.
