Family Claims Bodies of Couple Killed in Ladprao Beer Hall Fire

Families of a couple who died in a Ladprao beer hall fire claimed their bodies on July 14, leaving behind two young children; friends say blocked fire exits were a critical safety failure that contributed to the tragedy.

Family Claims Bodies of Couple Killed in Ladprao Beer Hall Fire
2d ago Khaosod

At 10:20 a.m. on July 14, 2025, at the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police Hospital, Jitthiya, the aunt of Namphueng Thapsuek (Ice), who died along with her husband Suwichai Sirisolung (Lee) in the Ladprao beer hall fire, collected their bodies to take them back to Nakhon Nayok province for merit-making ceremonies amid deep sorrow.

Jitthiya and close friend Chudathip revealed that Ice and Lee were kind-hearted, cheerful people who always supported each other. The couple had two young children—a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old—who now face an uncertain future. While the older child has begun to understand that both parents have died, the younger is still unaware of what has happened. The family is currently discussing care arrangements for the children.

Friends of the deceased highlighted critical safety concerns at the entertainment venue, noting that tables and obstructions should never block walkways or fire exits. If management fears customers will leave without paying, they should station staff rather than lock or block exits, as this prevents people from escaping during emergencies. The fire has deeply affected those who knew the couple.

Ice had recently completed teacher training and worked to support her family, while Lee was a volunteer who constantly helped others. The family is calling for a transparent investigation and accountability, particularly regarding the blocked fire exits, which they believe was a major factor in the high death toll. They emphasized that no amount of compensation can replace the lives lost or restore what the family has lost. The family also demands that those responsible issue a public apology and take clear responsibility for the tragedy. According to those close to the couple, Lee also worked as a volunteer driver, providing free transportation for elderly people, children, and pregnant women. After news of his death spread online, many people expressed their grief and praised his dedication to volunteering.

DSI arrested 'Coach James' at Suvarnabhumi Airport on arrival from the UAE for operating an unauthorized forex trading scheme and defrauding clients through a network of brokers and payment services.

DSI Arrests 'Coach James' in Illegal Forex Trading Case at Airport
2d ago Khaosod

On July 14, 2025, officers from the DSI's Investigation and Intelligence Division, working with police from the Investigation and Suppression Division and Immigration Bureau Region 2, arrested Theeraphong, alias 'Coach James,' one of two suspects named in a court arrest warrant. He faces charges under the Computer Crime Act of 2007 and fraud charges under Section 343 of the Criminal Code for operating as an introducing broker (IB) without authorization.

Theeraphong's role involved advising clients on forex trading and directing them to brokers within his network. Investigators found that the IB group's financial flows were interconnected with brokerage firms and payment service companies that numerous victims had filed complaints against.

Theeraphong was apprehended upon entry to Thailand from the United Arab Emirates at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 9:00 a.m. Officers recorded video and audio throughout the arrest and transfer process in compliance with anti-torture laws. He was brought to the DSI's Technology and Information Crimes Division at Government Center Building C, 9th Floor, Chaengwattana Road, Bangkok, for further legal proceedings.

When questioned by reporters at the center at 11:25 a.m., Theeraphong, dressed in a black t-shirt and black shorts without a mask or handcuffs, smiled but declined to comment. His lawyer, Amorn Kusol, requested that no questions be asked about case details and stated he would provide any necessary statements. Amorn denied all charges, including violations of the Computer Crime Act and fraud, and expressed surprise that a court warrant had been issued despite prior submissions of investigative points.

Justice Minister Rutthapol Naorawat confirmed that the DSI had arrested Theeraphong as one of the master group members and investment recruiters in the forex scheme. Regarding bail, authorities will determine whether to release him on bail or remand him to custody pending trial.

Six Provinces Face Landslide, Flash Flood Risk From Heavy Rain
2d ago Khaosod

The Department of Mineral Resources has alerted six provinces—Tak, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Trat—to the heightened risk of landslides and flash floods due to persistent heavy rainfall and forecast rainfall expected to trigger ground movement. The Meteorological Department predicts heavy to very heavy rain across the northern, northeastern, and southern regions over the next 24 hours, with the northeast experiencing especially intense downpours caused by a low-pressure system centered over northern Vietnam and a strengthening southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in these areas must prepare for sudden flooding and flash floods, particularly on hillsides near waterways and in valleys. Network volunteers in high-risk zones have been directed to maintain close surveillance of geological hazards and ready emergency response systems; officials must immediately inspect affected areas to reassure residents and provide initial guidance.

Thailand Cracks Down on Chinese Trucks Violating Approved Routes
2d ago Khaosod

The Department of Land Transport, coordinating with Chumphon-Prachuap Highway Police, has established checkpoints to intercept Chinese trucks operating outside permitted routes, warning that further violations will trigger immediate seizure, mandatory rerouting to approved paths, and strict legal action.

On July 14, 2025, Department Director Saropong Paithoonyapong disclosed enforcement efforts against Chinese cross-border cargo vehicles illegally deviating from GMS (Greater Mekong Subregion) transport agreements to smuggle fruit into southern Thailand. The department is implementing countermeasures to prevent repeat offenses and safeguard Thai transport operators.

On July 13, Chumphon Transport Office, collaborating with police from Lang Suan Station, district officials, customs, commerce department, and immigration checkpoints, conducted inspections of cargo trucks and sales permits. They also publicized international freight regulations under the GMS cross-border transport agreement signed by Cambodia, Laos, China, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam at Lert Prom Market, Morkot Market, and nearby areas in Lang Suan District, Chumphon.

This proactive operation targets Chinese trucks attempting to deviate from authorized routes into southern regions. Following coordinated efforts between Chumphon Transport Office and highway police from both provinces, inspectors discovered five Chinese container trucks parked behind Morkot Market with no drivers present. Vehicle registration checks revealed these trucks were registered for international freight transport, had entered Thailand via Chiang Khong Customs in Chiang Rai between June 29 and July 1, with declared destinations in Bangkok and Chanthaburi. Officials seized the vehicles to investigate buyers, sellers, and parties involved in unauthorized cargo pickups for legal action.

The Department of Land Transport warns that any Chinese trucks operating outside approved routes will face immediate interception and document inspection. Violators will be fined and forced to return immediately to one of nine authorized GMS routes, with no permission to proceed to off-route destinations. The department has also notified foreign transport operators through diplomatic channels operating in Thailand who have violated these routes, urging strict driver supervision. Coordinating with highway police and relevant agencies, authorities will continue surveillance and interdiction; further violations will prompt reconsideration of stricter measures.

Grieving Mother Lays Flowers as Fire Victims Mourned

Families mourned victims of a deadly Lat Phrao bar fire on July 14, laying flowers and wreaths as survivors criticized the venue's cramped layout and inadequate emergency exits.

Grieving Mother Lays Flowers as Fire Victims Mourned
2d ago Khaosod

On July 14, a somber atmosphere surrounded the beer bar in Lat Phrao where the fire occurred, as families, relatives, friends, and acquaintances of the victims continuously brought white roses, wreaths, and condolence messages to lay at the entrance. The mother of Ms. Nanthip Thapsuk, one of the fatalities, placed a wreath while tearfully recounting that she learned of the tragedy around 1 a.m. after her daughter's friend's older sister, a volunteer at a foundation, informed her that her daughter had called to invite friends to the bar. The mother stated the family would collect her daughter's body from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police Hospital before transporting it to Nakhon Nayok province for a merit-making ceremony. Ms. Chutiya Sukanutsart, a regular patron who came to pay respects, revealed she had visited the bar twice, most recently in April, and noted the space felt cramped with tables packed too tightly together. She said she never noticed a rear exit—only a candy counter was visible—and remarked that fire escape signs were barely noticeable unless one worked there or actively looked for them. She described using only the front entrance and expressed anxiety about future outings, stating she would now choose venues with open spaces and clearly marked exits. Meanwhile, Union Mall, located near the incident site, conducted routine fire drill training for staff and shop representatives led by rescue officials to review procedures and correct equipment usage, emphasizing this was a scheduled weekly practice and not a special response to the bar fire.
