PM Anutin Visits Train-Bus Collision Site, Questions Lack of Warning for Vehicle Blocking Tracks
A freight train struck a passenger bus near Suvarnabhumi Airport on May 16, injuring 30 people, prompting PM Anutin to question why no warning system alerted authorities to the vehicle blocking the tracks.
At 10 p.m. on May 16, 2025, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister visited the collision site where a freight train carrying shipping containers struck a passenger bus near Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link station. He instructed relevant agencies to provide comprehensive care for the injured and support for victims' families.
Anutin emphasized the need for a full investigation, expressing concern about the apparent lack of warning notification regarding the vehicle blocking the tracks. He questioned why no alert system flagged the bus obstruction at a location prone to traffic congestion, and why no similar incidents had occurred previously at this crossing.
When asked about preventive measures, the Prime Minister stated that safety protocols already exist within the Land Transport and Railway departments, but acknowledged the need for investigation. He directed medical teams to provide full care for all 30 injured passengers and expedite identification of deceased victims for their families' funeral arrangements.
Regarding police reports indicating the bus crossed onto the railway tracks, Anutin deferred further comment to police authorities, stating the immediate priority was preventing additional loss of life.
