PM Orders Police to Monitor French Riots, Safeguard Thailand
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul convened a top-level security meeting and ordered the national police chief to monitor the violent unrest in France, directing authorities to prevent any similar disturbances in Thailand. He emphasized that Thailand enjoys social cohesion and lacks the ethnic and cultural divisions fueling the French protests, but stressed the need for preparedness to safeguard public order.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, also serving as Interior Minister, held a security meeting at Government House on October 22 with new National Security Council Secretary-General General Chaiyapruk Didyasarin and military, security, intelligence, and administration commanders to align strategies. When asked about the violent protests in France, the premier said he immediately called National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Saran Nuanma to monitor the situation closely and ensure similar unrest does not erupt in Thailand. He stressed that Thailand does not face the same internal conflicts, noting that Thais live together in peace and unity without the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural tensions present elsewhere. Nevertheless, as head of national security, the police chief must study the situation and prepare contingency plans to maintain order.
