Police Arrest Call Center Gang Impersonating DSI Officials
Samut Prakan police arrested a call‑center gang member who impersonated DSI and Anti‑Money Laundering Office officials to extort 1.3 million baht from a victim. The operation used a decoy posing as a patient to lure the gang’s money‑collector, leading to the arrest of a 22‑year‑old suspect and his accomplice. Police are now tracing the money trail linked to alleged money‑laundering and drug offenses.
Police from Bang Kaew Police Station in Samut Prakan coordinated a sting operation after a victim reported being scammed by a call-center gang posing as DSI and Anti-Money Laundering Office officials, who demanded over one million baht to be handed over for a supposed financial investigation. Officers, led by Lt. Col. Charoenchai Hai-tuk and other investigators, arranged a money hand‑off at a shopping mall in Bang Phli, using a decoy rider to collect the cash. After the victim delivered 1.3 million baht in a brown envelope, police arrested the first suspect, 22‑year‑old Krismetha, who confessed he was only a money‑collector for another gang member, Ekarin. To catch Ekarin, police had Krismetha feign a motorcycle accident and be taken to hospital by rescue workers, then send photos and messages showing he was in an ambulance. Ekarin arrived at the hospital to collect the money, where he was apprehended by officers.
