Police Raid Home and Arrest Professional Cable Thief Who Stripped Copper Wire to Fund Drug Habit and Online Gambling
A 29-year-old man was arrested in Bangkok for stealing copper wire from the central railway station to fund his drug habit and online gambling addiction.
On April 24, 2025, police from Tao Poon Station arrested Sitthichai, 29, based on court warrant 2355/2569 for theft of public property at a railway station through disguise or deception. He was apprehended at his residence on Kamphaeng Phet Road 6 in Jatujak District, Bangkok. The arrest followed an incident on April 21 when police received reports of a suspect illegally cutting electrical wires inside Bangkok Central Railway Station. Building workers heard suspicious sounds coming from the ceiling and discovered cut wires, equipment, and copper cables. Security footage showed a man on a red and black motorcycle entering the electrical room before the incident. Vehicle ownership records led investigators to Sitthichai. During interrogation, he admitted to having no regular employment and sneaking into the station to steal copper wiring, which he sold for money to buy drugs and fund online gambling. Police will expand the investigation and proceed with legal action.
