SAIJO DENKI Refutes Influencer's Claim of Exorbitant Power Bill
Thai air conditioner brand SAIJO DENKI has denied a Chinese influencer's claim that its 12,000 BTU Smart Cool model consumed 790 units of electricity in a month, costing 6,320 baht. The company says the unit holds the highest energy-efficiency rating in its class and that even running at full power 24/7 would only use 700 units, while normal bedroom usage would cost about 675 baht. SAIJO DENKI alleges the influencer deliberately misused the unit to damage its reputation.
SAIJO DENKI has issued a clarification regarding a famous Chinese female influencer who posted a video showing her use of a SAIJO DENKI Smart Cool 12,000 BTU air conditioner. She stated the electricity bill reached 790 units, equivalent to 6,320 baht, which exceeded her room rent of only 5,500 baht — implying the SAIJO DENKI brand wastes electricity at a rate of 790 units per month, averaging 26.33 units per day. The company declares this is false for the following reasons:
1. The model in question has passed Energy Label No. 5 testing and is certified to exceed the minimum 5-star threshold at 4 stars (the scale runs from 0 to 5 stars). It is the only brand in the 12,000–13,000 BTU range to achieve the maximum 4-star Label No. 5 rating.
2. Standard testing runs every brand at maximum capacity. This unit consumes 0.973 units per hour at full load. Running continuously 24 hours a day for 30 days would use 700 units per month (0.973 × 24 × 30).
3. The video claims a single air conditioner used 790 units per month, which is already higher than the theoretical maximum of 700 units even if the unit ran at full power non-stop all month. Therefore, the claimed 790 units is impossible.
4. The 700-unit test figure assumes the thermostat is set at the minimum 15°C, forcing the compressor to run continuously. Normal bedroom usage sets the temperature at 25°C and runs the unit only 8–10 hours per night. At 25°C the compressor operates about 55% of the time, so monthly consumption would be roughly 55% of 700 units, or about 160 units. At the residential rate of 4.22 baht per unit, that equals approximately 675 baht per month — a difference of 5,645 baht from the video's claim, making the video's figure nearly nine times higher than reality.
5. The company believes the influencer deliberately set the unit to 15°C and ran it 24/7 for 30 days to sabotage SAIJO DENKI's reputation. Even under such abnormal operation, the unit's maximum consumption would still be 700 units, not 790.
