Teen Shoots Soldier Dead During Brawl in Songkhla

CCTV footage reveals the moment a teenager fired a gun at a good Samaritan soldier who died after intervening in a teen brawl. The gunman later surrendered, claiming he didn't intend to shoot but the gun went off accidentally. Police don't believe this claim. The incident occurred in front of a restaurant in Mueang District, Songkhla Province, when groups of teenagers fought and used firearms. Sergeant Sulaiman Binawa, 26, a soldier from the 42nd Military Circle at Senanurak Camp in Hat Yai District, was a good citizen who intervened to separate the two groups and lost his life. Regarding progress, on October 26, 2026, Pol. Col. Kirati Triwai, Superintendent of Mueang Songkhla Police Station, inspected the scene and spoke with vendors at the food center where the incident occurred, about 100 meters from the liquor store where the two groups met, and re-examined the restaurant's CCTV cameras. The restaurant's CCTV clearly recorded events from before the incident. It started at 00:05 when Mr. 'Gap', 18, walked to a white motorcycle parked near a power pole with his girlfriend and his 40-year-old mother. Then the opposing group walked from the liquor store and stopped to talk. Soon after, a man in a white T-shirt punched Gap in the face while his girlfriend sat next to him and his mother stood at the back of the motorcycle, before the situation escalated. Sergeant Sulaiman, wearing a white polo shirt and jeans, was sitting and eating with friends at the Chalatat Beach pavilion across the road. He saw the incident and crossed the street to separate both sides because he saw Gap's girlfriend and mother being assaulted as well. This escalated the situation further because the assailants' group, which had many people, misunderstood that Sergeant Sulaiman, a good citizen, was Gap's friend. As a result, Sergeant Sulaiman was also attacked by the group. Before Mr. Priwat, or 'Yue', 20, wearing a black T-shirt and black jeans, could back away and fell down, he got up, drew a firearm, and shot Sergeant Sulaiman in the middle of the road until he fell. He then kicked him repeatedly and struck his head with the gun butt twice, causing Sergeant Sulaiman to crawl away to survive to the roadside. Priwat then tucked the gun into his waistband and walked away to flee. Later, Mueang Songkhla investigation police went to receive Priwat from Sathing Phra Police Station after he surrendered there, and returned to Mueang Songkhla Police Station with his private lawyer. Immediately upon exiting the police vehicle, Priwat refused to speak about the incident and did not apologize to the deceased's family who had intervened and was shot dead by him. Priwat gave a preliminary statement that he did not intend to shoot, but the incident occurred because the gun went off accidentally. Police don't believe this and continue detailed questioning. An arrest warrant was issued; the gunman stormed in and shot the young soldier dead in front of the restaurant.
