The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has officially launched the Omsin Youth Sports Festival 2026, the 17th season, creating opportunities for Thai youth athletes. The tournament offers over 4.6 million baht in prize money to identify outstanding athletes aged 18 and under from member schools nationwide.

This year's competition features three popular sports: men's football, men's basketball, and women's volleyball. Regional qualifying rounds are held across six locations—Bangkok, Songkhla, Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Sawan, and Chiang Rai—to select champions and runners-up from each venue. The top 12 teams will advance to the national championship in Bangkok in November.

Beyond competition, the program develops youth holistically through discipline, responsibility, self-management, sports science learning, and pathways to education or professional sports careers. It reinforces the school banking program's role in sustainable youth development.

The first regional round took place June 22-26, 2026 in Bangkok, with six teams qualifying for nationals:

Men's Basketball (U18): Champion—Assumption Thonburi School; Runner-up—Satri Witaya 2 School

Women's Volleyball (U18): Champion—Bodindecha (Sing Singhaseni) School; Runner-up—Wichitwitya School

Men's Football (U18): Champion—Rajwinitwongkul Bangkhen School; Runner-up—Wichitwitya School

Competition continues in Songkhla July 6-10, 2026, where six more teams will earn national tournament berths. The BAAC believes the festival will inspire Thai youth and open pathways to success in sports, academics, and life. A woman who previously sued a prominent YouTuber with over 10 million followers has clarified that her case involves defamation, not physical assault. She expressed concern about public misunderstanding after the YouTuber claimed the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Ms. Paeng (a pseudonym), who filed the defamation suit against the YouTuber, explained that she initially paid little attention to the controversy. However, when the YouTuber publicly stated that an assault case against her had been dismissed due to insufficient evidence, she felt compelled to speak out, fearing the public would misunderstand her actual case.

Ms. Paeng clarified that her lawsuit was solely for defamation, not assault. The case concluded on June 30, 2566, through successful mediation between both parties. As settlement conditions, the defendant agreed to post a pinned message on their social media page for 30 days to show intent not to pursue further conflict, and compensation for damages was paid to Ms. Paeng.

Regarding allegations of physical assault, Ms. Paeng stated these never happened to her. While she acknowledged hearing rumors from close contacts and local residents, she never saw any legal proceedings or lawsuits filed on such charges.

Ms. Paeng explained that the incident involving the LGBT group and the assault allegations are separate matters from her defamation case. The dismissal of her case was unrelated to any assault claims and resulted solely from successful mediation before evidence was even presented in court.

She expressed concern that by conflating different issues, the YouTuber may have caused public confusion, making people believe her case was dropped due to lack of evidence rather than successful settlement. This could damage her credibility by suggesting her original accusations were unfounded.

Regarding the dance competition incident, Ms. Paeng confirmed it occurred when she, as a competition judge, told an LGBT contestant their dancing was "sloppy" and refused to provide feedback. When the contestant approached her for constructive criticism, as is customary in the dance community, the interaction became heated with raised voices and nearly escalated to physical confrontation before others intervened.

Ms. Paeng emphasized that this competition incident and the assault allegations are completely separate from her defamation case. She stressed that her case was dismissed due to successful mediation, not lack of evidence, and expressed concern the public might think she made unfounded accusations.

Ms. Paeng concluded that her recent posts and interview statements were not intended to attack or damage the YouTuber's reputation. She noted that if that were her goal, she would have responded during the initial news coverage. However, since the YouTuber brought up the legal matter first, she felt entitled to clarify the facts relevant to her situation.

A British tourist's Bali trip took an unexpected turn when a local monkey snatched his phone and left behind videos and selfies.

In mid-June, 19-year-old Lloyd from England traveled to Bali, Indonesia with his girlfriend, but encountered an unforgettable experience when a local monkey stole his mobile phone right before his eyes.

The couple visited Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali's most famous attractions. Lloyd was taking photos of monkeys to send to friends when he lowered his phone. His girlfriend immediately shouted a warning, but before he could react, a monkey quickly grabbed the device and ran away.

After the monkey fled into the nearby forest, Lloyd and his girlfriend sought help from local staff and used location-tracking apps to find the phone. After more than an hour, officials successfully recovered it.

However, the story didn't end there. When Lloyd checked his phone, he discovered the monkey had recorded one video clip and taken multiple selfies, leaving him both amused and astounded.

Lloyd recalled that before the incident, his girlfriend had jokingly said, "Maybe the monkey will use your phone to take selfies." He never imagined her playful remark would actually come true.

Seventeen delivery room nurses at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio are expecting babies simultaneously this year, breaking the department's previous record of 11 concurrent pregnancies. The announcement has generated significant excitement on social media.

Department manager Amberly Sanner explained that staff gradually learned about colleagues' pregnancies over recent months, with numbers increasing steadily until it became a joyful occasion for the entire team.

Lawyer Tam remains free on bail despite a petition to revoke it. The Criminal Court on June 30, 2025, at Ratchadaphisek Road, Room 710, heard arguments in the case of Panathep Puapongphan, chairman of Yam Fao Aplan Din Foundation, and attorney Ajchara Sangkhao, representing Jatuporn Ubonsert (Je Oy), who sought to revoke bail for Sithira Biabangkerd (Lawyer Tam) in a 71-million-baht fraud case.

After analyzing both the petition and the defendant's statements, the court found no sufficient grounds to change the temporary release order. However, it deemed it appropriate to impose additional conditions on the temporary release pending appeal. The court banned the defendant from interfering with witnesses or evidence, or from publicly criticizing evidence in any manner that reduces its credibility or impacts the court's proceedings, as the case remains ongoing.

Regarding the plaintiffs' request to investigate whether the defendant committed contempt of court or violated judicial authority, the court determined that contempt of court under Criminal Code Section 198 requires standard criminal procedures including complaint, investigation, prosecution, and trial—not court-initiated inquiry. For contempt violations, it is the court's exclusive authority. The court noted that maintaining order in judicial proceedings is essential for justice to be administered fairly, efficiently, and without external interference or threats.

The court observed that recent violations involving obstruction, intimidation, and non-compliance with court orders have become increasingly serious. However, since the defendant pledged in today's hearing to take no action risking judicial contempt, and the court has already imposed additional bail conditions, the court decided to give the defendant an opportunity without further investigation, thereby granting the petition in part. The court strictly warned the defendant to comply with all bail conditions or face revocation of temporary release.
