Ariyo Lok 6 - Commemorating 111 Years of Birth of Somdej Phra Wanarat (Nirand)

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, a commemoration will be held for the 111th birth anniversary of Somdej Phra Wanarat (Nirand Nirantaro), former abbot of Wat Thep Sirin in Bangkok and former member of the Supreme Sangha Council. A revered monk who dedicated his life to Buddhist missions with exceptional knowledge and virtue, he continually contributed to the monastic community's development. Born in Chon Buri on Saturday, February 12, 1915, he was ordained at age 16 on April 9, 1931, at Wat Thep Sirin. Throughout his life, he was known for his humility, extensive Buddhist scholarship, and commitment to preserving religious knowledge. He was respected as a 'walking Tripitaka' among his disciples, always using donated funds to purchase books and create a knowledge repository for monks. Before his passing in 2003 at age 89, he generously donated his personal land and assets to various temples and educational institutions.
