Samphanthawong District Cancels Yaowarat Chinese New Year Festival 2024

Samphanthawong District has announced the cancellation of the 2024 Yaowarat Chinese New Year festival, scheduled for February 17-18, out of respect for the mourning period of Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. The festival committee determined that the celebratory nature of the Chinese New Year does not align with the current atmosphere of grief and mourning. However, visitors can still enjoy activities in the Yaowarat area, including beautiful light decorations by the Tourism Authority of Thailand along a 500-meter stretch from the Royal Commemorative Arch to Lam Luen Chai intersection. Despite canceling the main festival, some cultural activities will still take place, such as lion dance performances and traditional Chinese shows at the Pichit Niti Building.
