Municipal Gymnasium Floor Collapses, Boom Lift Falls, Killing 2 Married Workers
A floor collapse at the Trang City Municipal Gymnasium resulted in a boom lift falling, killing two married workers. At 10:30 AM on February 9, 2026, Deputy Police Lieutenant Pichet Susan was notified of the incident at the 4,000-seat gymnasium (Thung Jae). The concrete floor and precast concrete panels collapsed, causing the boom lift to fall and throwing the workers onto the ground.
Emergency services, including police and rescue units, responded to the scene. Two workers were found critically injured: Ms. Suwali, 27, and Mr. Sarawut, 32, a married couple. Despite immediate medical attempts, both workers died shortly after.
Initial investigations revealed a Genie Z-80/60 boom lift weighing 10-17 tons had fallen from the second floor. A co-worker explained that the floor began to collapse, with one wheel falling first, followed by the entire vehicle and lift. The workers were performing electrical and air conditioning work as outsourced contractors.
The municipal gymnasium, part of a development project started on September 25, 2025, with a budget of 43,750,000 baht, was under renovation at the time of the accident. The boom lift had been in use since November 2025 for high-altitude work.
