Father-in-law Leaps from Vehicle to Escape 'L', Volatile Suspect Who Took Him Hostage
Police in Pathum Thani province launched an urgent operation to capture a suspect named Nopparat (last name withheld) or 'L', who was involved in shooting at a rescue vehicle in Chonburi province before taking his father-in-law hostage. The incident began around 11 PM on February 16, when the suspect, a pickup truck driver, parked dangerously on a motorway and was confronted by rescue workers. He became enraged, chased and shot at the rescue vehicle twice, and then fled into the forest with his girlfriend.
Around 2 AM on February 18, the suspect returned home in Lat Lum Kaeo district and took his father-in-law hostage from the opposite side of a canal, demanding to meet his wife. At approximately 4 AM near Bang Pa-in district in Ayutthaya, the father-in-law managed to escape by jumping from the vehicle when it slowed down on a bridge.
Police later searched the suspect's home and found 7 firearms - 4 registered to his parents and 3 with unclear ownership. As a precautionary measure, 13 schools in the district were closed for the day. The suspect faces charges including attempted murder, illegal weapon possession, and reckless shooting in a public area.
