Thawi Helps 'Kamonlasak' Campaign in Narathiwat, Vows to Restore Southern Pride and Fight Drugs
On February 4, 2026, Pol. Col. Thawi Sordsorng, leader of the Prachasart Party and former Justice Minister, rallied support for Kamonlasak Leewamoh, parliamentary candidate for Narathiwat's District 5. Speaking at the Jampago Football Field in Bajae District, Thawi highlighted the economic struggles of the southern border provinces, noting that residents are forced to migrate for work to Malaysia, Bangkok, Phuket, and Krabi due to severe economic downturn.
"Narathiwat has become the province with the lowest income and most impoverished population in the country, despite massive government budgets focused more on state security than people's welfare," Thawi stated. He discussed concerns about border relations with Malaysia, particularly regarding proposed border wall constructions and the region's reputation as an alleged drug trafficking hub.
Thawi strongly criticized the characterization of Sunga Kolok and Tak Bai districts as the 'Ice Drug Capital', calling it shameful. He emphasized that these drugs are not produced in Thailand but flow from the Golden Triangle through self-serving influential groups.
If his party wins government, Thawi promised decisive action to restore local dignity through aggressive drug interdiction, including capturing and seizing assets of drug traffickers. His strategy includes transforming border areas into 'white zones', reviving local economies, and negotiating with Malaysian authorities to prevent border wall construction.
