Deputy National Police Chief Inspects Election Security Preparedness in Southern Border Provinces
On January 31, 2024, Police Lieutenant General Samran Nualma, Deputy National Police Commander (Security), visited the southern border provinces to inspect election security preparations. He was tasked by National Police Chief Police General Kittarat Phanphet to monitor the situation, provide guidance, and boost morale among police personnel. The delegation, including several high-ranking police officers, visited police stations in Pattani province, including Kapho Police Station, Laga Checkpoint, Mayo Police Station, and Yaring Police Station. They emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and not underestimating potential security risks. The southern border provinces will have 79 advance polling units and 6,780 polling units on the actual election day of February 8, 2024. Police have been instructed to maintain strict security measures to protect citizens' voting rights, secure polling locations, and ensure officer safety while remaining politically neutral. Police leadership has ordered provincial police commanders to closely coordinate with the Election Commission and integrate with military and administrative units to prevent potential unrest. For high-risk polling units, detailed tactical operation plans are required, with the National Police Office ready to provide full support to ensure maximum safety and smooth election proceedings.
