Supreme Court Dismisses Lawyer's Petition Challenging People's Party Candidate Replacement
On January 30, 2026, at the Supreme Court, a report emerged about a case filed by lawyer Surachai Nivasapan regarding the People's Party (Prachachon Party) replacing Boonrit Rao Rung Roj, a former Bangkok representative candidate, with Thao Phiphop Limjitrakorn, another former Bangkok representative.
The petitioner argued that the party cannot change candidates according to the constitution and election laws. However, the Supreme Court's Election Division examined the petition and determined that the petitioner does not have the legal authority to file such a complaint.
The court outlined three specific legal scenarios where challenges to candidate registration can be made, and concluded that this particular petition did not meet any of those criteria. As a result, the court dismissed the petition, effectively allowing Thao Phiphop to remain as the candidate for the Bangkok Noi constituency.
