BOI Joins Forces with Samsung to Accelerate Local Component Usage, Continuing Investment Over 30 Billion Baht
The Board of Investment (BOI) has collaborated with Thai Samsung Electronics to organize the 'Thai Samsung Electronics Sourcing Day' business matching event on February 18, 2024, at the Convention Hall of Pattana Sport Resort in Chonburi Province. The event aims to promote domestic component purchasing and support Thai entrepreneurs, particularly SMEs, to become part of the growing global electronics industry supply chain. Over 200 participants from 71 domestic component manufacturers participated in business negotiations with the Samsung group.
Samsung, a global leader in electronics technology, has been investing in Thailand since 1988 through Thai Samsung Electronics, establishing a factory in Chonburi and continuously expanding investments. The company currently has 8 BOI-promoted projects worth over 30,000 million baht, producing refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, ovens, and dishwashers with a total production capacity of 15 million units per year for domestic and international markets.
For 2024, Samsung aims to increase local component sourcing to over 70% across different product lines, with specific targets ranging from 66% for refrigerators to 73% for dishwashers. The company is committed to developing local suppliers through innovation partnerships and technological support.
