Immigration Police Sweep Targets Transnational Criminals, Arrest 3 Vietnamese Suspects Hiding in Thailand
On February 5, 2024, the Immigration Bureau launched a comprehensive operation to suppress transnational crime, arresting several foreign criminal suspects. The operation targeted individuals with international arrest warrants who were using Thailand as a hiding place. Key arrests included a 23-year-old American wanted for murder and weapons charges in Georgia, a 38-year-old Maldivian suspect involved in a football association money laundering case worth over 50 million baht, and 3 Vietnamese nationals wanted for intentional murder in Da Nang. Additionally, immigration officers intercepted a van carrying 51 Myanmar migrant workers near Kanchanaburi, with smugglers charging between 10,000 and 60,000 baht per person. The Immigration Bureau emphasized its commitment to preventing Thailand from becoming a safe haven for serious criminal offenders.
