Chinese Man Walks Over 1,500 km Home for Lunar New Year, Bathes Only 4 Times in 50 Days
Yu, a young Chinese man, went viral online after posting about his 1,500-kilometer walking journey from Hangzhou back to his hometown of Chongqing to celebrate Lunar New Year, carrying only one bag and a mobile phone. Throughout his arduous journey, he initially used pedestrian navigation systems, later switching to bicycle routes for safety. His lifestyle was incredibly simple - eating just one meal a day and camping at night. Over 50 days, he bathed only 4 times, with 2 of those during hotel stays. He received kindness from strangers along the way, which became crucial motivation. By January 27th, he had walked 53 days and 1,400 kilometers, wearing out 3 pairs of shoes, with approximately 120 kilometers remaining before reaching Chongqing. He expects to arrive in 4-5 more days. During his journey, he began recording short clips and eventually started livestreaming, gaining over 5,200 followers who offered support. His livestream gifts provided around 100 yuan (about 450 baht) daily. Financially struggling after unsuccessful job hunting in Hangzhou, he chose to walk home to practice patience and enjoy the scenery. He plans to continue walking, targeting 10,000 kilometers by 2026 and hoping to develop himself as a creator.
