Tawee Unveils Student Loan Debt Relief Plan and Proposes Peace Act for Southern Provinces
On February 3, 2026, Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, leader of the Pracharath Party, gave an interview about the party's strategies focusing on structural problem-solving. He highlighted a new policy to resolve Southern Border Provinces' issues through a new 'Peace Act' to replace martial law, and announced a war on drugs by returning cannabis to the controlled substances list. He also proposed an interest-free financial system to sustainably resolve household debt. Tawee emphasized that the upcoming February 8 election is not just about choosing relatives or acquaintances as MPs, but about selecting a better future and addressing long-standing issues. Regarding the unrest in Southern provinces, he stated that this is not just a local issue but a national agenda, arguing that existing security laws like martial law cannot solve the problem. On economic issues, Tawee focused on household debt, particularly student loans, noting over 3.5 million borrowers are trapped in seemingly endless debt. He proposed a comprehensive debt relief plan targeting different age groups, including immediate debt forgiveness for those over 35 and flexible repayment options for younger borrowers. Tawee stressed that education is a fundamental constitutional right, and poverty should not be a barrier to education. The proposed debt relief aims to free 3.5 million people from lifelong financial constraints, reintegrate them into the economic system, reduce legal burdens, and restore opportunities for educated individuals.
