Taiwanese Woman Sentenced to 3 Months in Jail for Repeatedly Shouting Obscenities at Neighbors
On February 18, a Taiwanese woman from Kaohsiung was sentenced to 3 months in jail after using a megaphone to continuously shout obscenities at neighbors during late-night hours for over a year, causing significant disturbance to the community. According to reports, a woman named Chen had been feuding with neighbors for almost two years, installing a sound amplification device on her third-floor balcony and using a megaphone at maximum volume to shout vulgar language 2-3 times per week. The incidents typically occurred during nighttime or early morning hours when most people were asleep, lasting from several minutes to dozens of minutes and affecting at least 10 households. Neighbors ultimately reported her after enduring continuous verbal abuse and sleep disruption. During the trial, Chen admitted to using the megaphone but claimed she was not as frequent as alleged, while the judge rejected her defense and ruled that her behavior exceeded socially acceptable limits. The court sentenced her to 3 months in jail, which could be converted to a fine of approximately 90,000 Taiwanese dollars.
