Senior Monk Luang Phi Nam Fon Orders Police Monks to Defrock 'Luang Ta Chop' for Improper Behavior
On February 22, 2024, Phra Kru Palad Sitthiwat (Luang Phi Nam Fon), acting abbot of Wat Phai Lom Royal Temple in Nakhon Pathom, received public complaints about a monk with inappropriate behavior. The monk, identified as Phra Banjob, 72 years old, was observed driving a car and walking for alms at Pathom Mongkol Market, despite being previously expelled from the temple for uncontrollable behavior. After investigation and consultation with other temple authorities, the monk was ordered to be defrocked immediately. After the defrocking, Phra Banjob left in his personal car, preparing to return to lay life, visibly displeased with the decision. Luang Phi Nam Fon has coordinated with temple networks to monitor the monk's future actions to prevent potential impersonation or recurring inappropriate behavior.
