Female Mule Account Holder in Call Center Gang Impersonates Police Officer, Scams Over 5 Million Baht
On February 8, 2024, police officers led by Maj. Gen. Teerachat Teerachatithamrong arrested Ms. Nurul, 21, at Morchit Bus Station 2 in Bangkok. The suspect was wanted on a court warrant for fraud and computer-related crimes. Investigation revealed that in October 2023, the suspect and her gang impersonated a police officer named Amnuay Denwheha, falsely claiming the victims were involved in drug and money laundering cases. By manipulating victims through fake documents and threatening video calls, they convinced victims to transfer a total of 5,783,999.48 baht to their bank accounts. The suspect was arrested and will be prosecuted. Authorities warn citizens to be cautious of increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes, noting that the Bank of Thailand has already blocked over 2.8 million mule accounts.
