On February 5, 2024, police officials arrested Ms. Onpan, 48, with an arrest warrant from Nonthaburi Provincial Court for fraud charges. The suspect was captured in Koh Samrong Subdistrict, Kanchanaburi Province. The scam originated in April 2023 when the victim was selling second-hand clothes on a Facebook page. An admin contacted the seller, claiming numerous customers were interested and requesting a bank account opening to transfer product payments. The scammer initially returned transferred funds, gaining the victim's trust, before claiming system issues and demanding additional transfers. The victim was ultimately scammed of approximately 700,000 baht across multiple accounts. The suspect claimed she was forced to open bank accounts by a Cambodian call center gang but was arrested and will be prosecuted.
