Boxing Team Prepares to Compete in Spain, Aims for Asian Games 2026 Gold
The Thai Boxing Association, under the leadership of Pichai Chunhawachr, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, continues to push forward and build a foundation for boxing at youth, youth, and public levels, aiming to excel internationally, including the goal of Olympic gold in 2028. Most recently, they sent a boxing team led by Mariano Gonzales Cosme, the Cuban head coach of the Thai national boxing team, along with coaching staff and 9 male and female boxers to Spain. They will participate in the 'Boxam International Tournament 2026' from February 2-8 in Lanuciar, Valencia, Spain. The male boxers include 5 athletes in various weight categories: Thanarat Saengphet (55kg), Sakda Ruamtham (60kg), Kunathip Pidnuch (65kg), Witaya Chansom (75kg), and Weerapol Jongjoro. The female boxers include 4 athletes: Jutamat Raksad (51kg), Nattanicha Jongprongklang (54kg), Poonrawee Ruenros (57kg), and Thanunya Somnuk (60kg). This competition is part of their preparation before the 20th Asian Games between September 19 - October 4 in Nagoya, Japan, with the primary goal of winning gold medals.
