Big Sin, Former 15-Time Thai Billiards Association President, Passes Away Peacefully at 91
Sinthu Poonsiriwong, former 15-time president of the Thai Billiards Association, died peacefully at Bumrungrad Hospital at the age of 91 on February 21. He took over the presidency from Maurice Kerr in 1988 and developed Thai billiards continuously to Asian and global levels. Throughout his 15 terms, he pushed the billiards community to the forefront, supporting not just Thai athletes but developing the entire Asian system to reach global standards. He received a lifetime executive committee position from the International Billiards and Snooker Federation in 1991, becoming the first foreign executive of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. He served as Vice President of the World Cue Sports Federation from 1994-1998, and then became the World Cue Sports Federation President from 2000-2002. He was also the Asian Snooker Confederation President from 1998-2012. Sinthu had seven siblings, including Chaiya, Warin, and Kunakorn Poonsiriwong. The funeral ceremony will be held on February 24 at Wat Thattong Royal Temple, with cremation scheduled for March 1.
