Wife Brings Husband's Ashes Back to Thailand After Workplace Death, Korean Employer Refuses Responsibility
On February 5th, a Facebook user named Thep Thevada Max shared the tragic story of Thanakrit Kongmongkol, a Thai hotel worker in Daejeon, Korea. On January 26th, Thanakrit slipped and hit his head while working, was taken to the hospital, and subsequently died. His medical expenses were 14 million won. Thanakrit had been a dedicated worker who told his employer he would 'dedicate his life to work'. However, after his death, the employer refused to pay hospital bills, funeral expenses, or outstanding wages, callously stating 'Why pay? He's already dead'. The employer even fired Thanakrit's wife immediately after his death, leaving her without income and struggling to handle his remains. With help from the Thai Embassy in Seoul and some compassionate Korean locals, Thanakrit's wife was eventually able to bring his ashes back to Thailand on a T'way Airlines flight, departing Incheon at 19:50 and arriving in Thailand at 00:10. She is now preparing to sue the employer with legal assistance.
