Sudarat Slams Election Commission, Backed into a Corner with Evidence, Demands Halt to Prosecuting Citizens Who Exposed Fraud
On February 17, 2026, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, former leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, criticized the Election Commission (EC) regarding transparency issues in storing ballot stub records. She stated that the EC is cornered by clear evidence in regulations requiring ballot stubs to be kept in ballot boxes, but they continue to offer confusing explanations.
The most embarrassing action is the EC establishing a unit to pursue legal action against polling station officials and well-intentioned citizens who shared video clips and photos of irregularities, despite these people being crucial in protecting democracy.
Sudarat emphasized that the EC's primary duty is not to silence citizens, but to reveal all evidence to the public and dispel suspicions. She warned that if the EC continues to abuse its power to cover up its mistakes, they should be careful of citizens' legal power to counter-sue and potentially send responsible officials to prison. She stressed that people do not want excuses, but transparent and verifiable accountability.
