Tragic Revelation: Taxi Driver Dies in Car Fire After Being Unable to Repair Gas Leak
On January 30, 2024, a tragic incident occurred involving a Toyota taxi with license plate 1 มก 8354 Bangkok, which was completely destroyed by fire in Ban Thang Ngam, Phutthaisong District, Buriram Province. The incident resulted in the death of Kusol, 58, the vehicle's owner, who was burned beyond recognition while sitting in the driver's seat at around 3:00 AM.
Suchep, 69, the victim's brother-in-law, explained that the deceased had been driving this taxi for over 15 years and it was equipped with LPG. He believes the fire was definitely caused by a gas leak, as the victim had constantly complained about the car's poor condition and was continuously driving and repairing it.
Sunisa, 46, the victim's niece, added that her uncle was a taxi driver from Bangkok who had returned home hoping to pay off a Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) debt. The car had broken down in Prathai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, where a mechanic quoted 20,000 baht for repairs. Unable to afford the cost, the uncle had the car returned after paying 5,000 baht for labor.
Sunisa was unsure about the exact cause of the fire, only knowing that her uncle liked sleeping in the car and suffered from a leg condition. She stated that the police would handle any further investigation, and the family bears no grudge.
