Spectacular! Chongqing Launches 905-Meter Escalator Equivalent to 80-Story Building for Chinese New Year
On February 16, Chongqing, China's largest city, created a sensation by preparing to launch the 'Wushan Goddess Escalator' officially on February 17, coinciding with the first day of Chinese New Year. The project, located in Wushan County, offers a free 5-day trial period from February 12-16 during daytime hours without advance booking. This vertical transportation system is designed specifically to solve travel challenges in mountainous urban areas. The escalator is truly massive - 905 meters long, rising over 240 meters in elevation, equivalent to an 80-story building. It's not just a simple escalator, but a comprehensive transport network featuring 21 escalator sections, 8 elevators (including disabled access), 4 moving walkways, 2 pedestrian bridges, and 2 road crossings. Previously, traveling between upper and lower areas of Goddess Avenue took nearly an hour, but now it's reduced to just 20 minutes. A highlight is the panoramic views of the Three Gorges region and Wushan's mountain landscapes that passengers can enjoy during their journey. Authorities emphasize that this project not only improves traffic and living quality but also reinforces Chongqing's image as a 'three-dimensional metropolis' that seamlessly integrates infrastructure with tourism.
