Chonburi Candidate Demands Wastewater Investigation at Jomtien Beach
Thana Pramoolpong, a People's Party candidate for Sattahip District 10, called for an urgent investigation into wastewater discharge at Jomtien Beach. Local residents had shared online videos showing what appeared to be wastewater pipes flowing into the sea, raising questions about the source and treatment of the water. Reporters investigating the site found a large rectangular drainage structure partially covered by sand on the beach, which is part of a coastal water treatment project. Although the investigation was conducted during high tide with no direct water flow visible, a strong odor caused concern for nearby residents. Thana reported that upon inspection, the water appeared black, and he wants relevant agencies to conduct a detailed water quality assessment. He emphasized the importance of transparency in the wastewater treatment process to ensure public confidence and protect marine ecosystems. Simultaneously, Jomtien Municipality officials, led by Deputy Mayor Nattawat Mayusiri, conducted on-site water sampling and will perform field parameter measurements and laboratory testing to officially assess water quality.
